With the prospect of a government default just three days away, the White House entered intense negotiations with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Saturday in a last-ditch bid to forge a bipartisan agreement to raise the federal debt limit.
Shortly after 10 p.m., Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) announced that talks between McConnell (R-Ky.) and Vice President Biden had made significant progress, prompting Reid to delay a vote that had been scheduled for 1 a.m. Sunday on his own debt-limit measure.
There are negotiations going on at the White House to avert a catastrophic default on the nations debt, Reid said, after announcing that the vote had been pushed back to 1 p.m. Sunday. There are many elements to be finalized, and there is still a distance to go before any arrangement can be completed. But I believe we should give everyone as much room as possible to do their work.
He added: Im glad to see this move toward cooperation and compromise. I hope it bears fruit.
The emerging agreement calls for raising the $14.3 trillion debt limit by up to $2.4 trillion in two stages, with the debt limit rising unless two-thirds of both chambers of Congress disapprove, according to officials in both parties familiar with the talks. That would extend the Treasurys borrowing authority into 2013, satisfying President Obamas demand to avoid another showdown over the issue in the heat of the 2012 presidential campaign.

Where is the House on this one?
Can’t u tell by Bonehead’s silence. Silence speaks clearly sometimes.
McConnell is an idiot to let Obama off the hook. Working overtime to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
HOLD THE LINE!!
Make the idiot Obama fight for every damn last dollar of Marxist spending right up to election day!!
Well, even without any details this is easy...
If that sick communist piece of sh!+ Reid is encouraged, then I am discouraged.
Kill the deal.
Won’t the house have to approve this?
“He’s a real nowhere man, working on his nowhere plan for nobody.” -The Beatles
Yes, of course.
“last-ditch deal”
The last ditch for Obama to drive America into.
“Wont the house have to approve this?”
Boehner will vote for it, along with the rest of the Republican “leadership”, and he’ll have how ever many more he needs walk the plank for him, yet again, to pass it. I think if enough House Dems are on board, it’s probably a done deal, unfortunately. (If it’s as disappointing a plan as it appears (IMHO), the only hope may be that enough Dems and Conservatives in the House vote no).
The usual scumbags.
But there are dollar for dollar... cuts...
This is probably part of the last ditch scenario that Obama and Reid and the democrat leadership got together on late today. I wish our side of the aisles could plot and scheme like that!!!
Their big scheme so far is to drive a wedge between the Republican Party and the Tea Party and then marginalize the Tea Party into oblivion. It's not been working because the American public is starting to watch after last November's landslide loaded with votes for cutting the size of our government!!!
Bonehead has already turned 47 out of the 57 Freshmen class on the first vote. How hard do u think it will be to turn them again? The answer, a lot easier than the first.
Kill the deal.
It was all pre-arranged weeks ago. Everything else has been a Kabuki Dance for entertainment value only.
A pox on both your houses!
He’s NEVER seen his balls, cause he’s Never had any.
We would not get that without the Tea Party,,,,,there are a demonstrated Force NOW!
WE need to increase their numbers in Nov 2012....so we can make even bigger rollbacks and kill Obama Care.
If Obama and the Dem Senate support the bill, then the Democrats in the House will vote for it en masse. Which means that 25 frightened liberal Republicans would put it over the top.
