This is what we need to keep in mind for the 2012 elections.
Bump
It’s not like the nanny staters don’t have anything else to do. Hey Dick!!! It’s the economy, STUPID! Who cares about supplements!?
“Who cares about supplements!?”
Anyone who wants to be healthy and stay healthy.
The pharmaceutical companies have paid Congress for this. How dare anyone take care of their own health instead of being sick and giving them profits.
Dear Government,
SCREW YOU for always trying to take our freedoms away.
Sincerely,
Yaelle
“The Dems won’t rest until they completely control every aspect of our personal lives.”
This diet supplement and homeopathic issue is one which divides many within their own base, and is one where we could lead by example on liberty principals . . . if we had any of our own politicians who were emphatically pro-liberty.
ANNNNNDDDDDD... Everyone will have to rely on the commie ‘RATS’ ObamaCare to receive anything that will help keep them healthy. Dick isn’t as dumb as he looks.
Evidently, big pharma gives big statists more than their liberal base does. A LOT of liberals use supplements - if they find out about what their politicians are up to, they might just become very upset.
proposed by Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill... would crack down on the testing, labeling, and sale of dietary supplements nationwide... Sens. Durbin and Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., quietly submitted... over the July 4th weekend... would force a massive reclassification of food additives and dietary supplements to be managed by the Food and Drug Administration.
This is what you should be doing between now & election time if you can - start looking into places to move outside of this corrupt nation before they confiscate all of your earnings. You can't keep ahead of these crooks that eventually will own or rule all of the lower & middle class.
I doubt this can pass the Senate, but even if it does, it’s DOA in the House.
The little people need to understand who their masters are.
UN’s codex alimentarius?
I don't think melatonin should be put in snack cakes and sold that way, and I'm more than confident that the FDA already has adequate regulator authority to address those cases. That is really an oddball case Durbin is trying to use to grab more power for the FDA over all supplements.
But these days one can hardly turn on the TV without seeing another ad from a law firm seeking patients who have been harmed by some FDA approved prescription drug. Prescription and OTC drugs cause many thousands of hospital visits and deaths each year, but you can scarcely find even one death caused by supplements.
What's really needed are laws to prevent the FDA and busy body politicians from constantly threatening the right of citizens to use supplements that have been used for years with practically no provable harm and with many benefits.
Codex Alimentarius is ALL about controlling human nutrients, supplements, vitamins of all kinds, minerals, and drugs available OTC. In Europe, right now, you need a Rx for vitamin C. Related:

Would herbs you grow in your garden be considered dietary supplements?
Bump.
“Senate Bill S510 Makes it illegal to Grow, Share, Trade or Sell Homegrown Food”
(from 2010)
“If accepted [S 510] would preclude the public’s right to grow, own, trade, transport, share, feed and eat each and every food that nature makes. It will become the most offensive authority against the cultivation, trade and consumption of food and agricultural products of one’s choice.”

S510 passed.
