House Speaker John Boehner has a new excuse for the dissent within the ranks of the House Republican Caucus he is supposed to lead.
The caucus, Boehner says, has been infiltrated by a cabal that hopes to take the US economy hostage in order to force political concessions from President Obama and Congressional Democrats.
Appearing Wednesday on conservative talk radio host Laura Ingrahams,, Boehner acknowledged what every serious economic analyst has already said: that a failure to raise the debt ceiling before the August 2 deadline would be devastating to an already struggling US economy.
So why, Ingraham asked, were House Republicans resisting the deal that President Obama has offereda deal that is ridiculously deferent to Republican demands for cuts to needed domestic programs and for tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy.
Well, Boehner said of the most belligerent members of his caucus, first they want more. And my goodness, I want more too. And secondly, a lot of them believe that if we get passed August the second and we have enough chaos, we could force the Senate and the White House to accept a balanced budget amendment.
Lets be clear about what Boehner is saying: he has members of his caucusperhaps sufficient in number to block resolution of the debt ceiling fightwho would be willing to force the United States to default on its debts. Why? Because they want to create so much economic chaos that the president and Congressional Democrats will sign on for a bad policy that could not otherwise advance.
Thats blackmail. But Boehners not concerned about the fact that his lawless colleagues would threaten the good faith and credit of the United Statesnot to mention the economic stability of their homelandin order to score political points.
The Speakers only concern is that a wrong move might make it harder for him to maneuver politically.
I dont think that that strategy works, Boehner explained to the radio host. Because I think the closer we get to August the second, frankly, the less leverage we have vis à vis our colleagues in the Senate and the White House.
That is sort of reassuring.
Boehner is not a responsible player. But at least he is enough of a hack to fear that his colleagues who have lost touch with economic reality mightif allowed to have their waycreate chaos not just for the economy but force a crisis that Ingraham suggested could be disastrous for the Republican Party. “Oh. Both of my senators voted for CCB.”
Oh really?????
I didn’t hear that the SENATE voted on CCB......Didn’t Reid just put it in the shredder when he got it from the House???????.....As I Rrecall, there was no vote......
If you are talking about my US House representative, you’re talking about Tom McClintock....... I think my House member is in order with Tom being one of the most consistant big C Conservatives in American politics..... I doubt that your Rep can approach, much less exceed Tom’s Conservative record......
Get California in order??????? Call your brother in San Francisco, tell him all about his alternative lifestyle is forgiven, and ask him to come home.......likewise for all the other liberals that emigrated from east of the Nevada border.......Take Boxer back to her hometown Brooklyn, and Pelosi back to Baltimore, etc. etc. etc.
Clean up California????? Easy.... keep your trash at home....don’t send it here. Take back what you already dumped here.......
I’ll have to remind you that Ronnie Reagan came to California as a Democrat, and became a Conservative here..... you’ll be surprised to know that Free Republic is based in Fresno, California.... Again, REAL Californians (Conservatives) fighting the good fight, and leading the Nation towards the future.....(although it’s pretty hard to see our way sometimes with all YOUR trash lying about on my streets)
“Forty-Niner” is as in 1849’er........my family showed Fremont the way here. I regret that they forgot to take in the welcome mat post WWII......consider it done......
Which goes all the way back to my original point which you argued against. I made no mistake. Honest or otherwise. YOU made it a personal attack. Why would you do that?
Like I said, it’s a beautiful State. Too bad the commie filth that grew up there is now swarming to get into every other western state and the south and screw them up too.
LOL!
‘The Nation’? Seriously?
What do the ‘Daily Worker’ and the Trotskyites have to say about all this “debt ceiling” stuff?
“I refute bullsht like this article aimed at strengthening the leftist position.”
LOLOLOL...... “refute”?????...... you are one of the head manure spreaders......
Hurts to see such a great state like California destroyed in your lifetime.
I’m afraid I see a similar struggle well underway in Texas.

And then a couple pages later you posted:
7/29/2011 9:10:26 AM · 100 of 245 MestaMachine to Free Vulcan This article is from the nation, fer gawds sake. Those are THEIR words, not Boehners. This is hard left spin city. ALL of it.
At one point we were in violent agreement! lol.
Yes, I am saying if he was Speaker he would have done a massively better job throughout the process so we didn’t have to deal with this piece of excrement. While Boehner has had a few excellent moments, he ended up compromising with himself 10 times over just like he did in the 2011 budget battle. Incredibly ineffective.
Now today, the entire leftist media is demanding the GOP compromise when that’s all they did for 4 months of this debacle. Terrible negotiating and terrible media management to end up in this spot. The only thing keeping me on the reservation at all at this point is watching Obama’s popularity plummet below the worst of last year’s Obamacare fiasco for the left.
When you accept the truth that Boehner is simply a spineless, useless coward in the face of potential, ummmm, criticism, by lame stream media and Demonrats and is, himself, a Demonrat in GOP drag, you will recognize that he is not part of any "we." You can be a "we" with Boehner or be a "we" with actual conservatives, but not both. The choice is yours.
Boehner, McConnell and the rest of the whores who act as they do. Go along and get along. Let's make a deal! Let's make a deal! Let's make a deal! Drive these bastards out of leadership and out of Congress. We have our act together (with Rush, Sean and Mark Levin). How about you?
I don't care what words spineless Boehner actually used on behalf of his ruling class handlers. His treasonous actions speak louder than any words he might use. He is demanding that the actually conservative Tea Party Congressmen piss all over their promises to their constituents so they can be just as corrupt as Boehner.
If he loves golf so much that he wants to be Comrade O's caddy, he should quit Congress and go do it.
The libs almost always win the day because of the Boehners and the McConnells and their cowardice and their corruption.
I see Boehner’s portable mattress, portabhle red light and sack of quarters. As John Wayne once said of Tricky Dick: Give him a silk striped shirt and piano lessons and he can work any room in the house. Likewise Boehner and McConnell and their fraudulent spineless ilk.
sam_paine: I don’t think JimRob agrees with you and this IS his living room. If you can prove otherwise, feel free to let me know-—publicly. I don’t deal in FReepmail. If I am wrong as to JimRob, I stand to be corrected but I don’t think I am wrong.
What are you talking about?
I am well aware of what Boehner is. I never called him a great conservative, so don't cast my comments as such.
Second, Boehner is our guy, for now. I don't care if you like it and want to complain like a liberal about it. He is what we have.
A decent man once said "You go to war with the military you have." Well, we have Boehner and the mix in the House and Senate that we have.
My main point posting today is that this article is nothing more than a liberal attempt to divide the right, just like the "NRA Endorses Reid" garbage that caused a stir around here.
Boehner and the House is playing a political game because that is what the liberals are doing. They would prefer CCB because they voted for it. However, they need to play the game within the rules of the game.
You may want to protest the game and you may not like the game, but it is reality.
Until conservatives learn how to play politics with the same cunning as liberals, they are going to be whining, cry-babies who sit behind their keyboards in the minority.
Pense is running for the next term, and pretty much is a guaranteed win. Daniels is finishing his final term. I am a huge fan of Mike Pence and wish he would have stayed in the house leadership instead, but I am sure he has bigger plans for the future.
“Too bad the commie filth that grew up.....”
That filth grew up elsewhere and moved here.....Take em back home is all I ask.......
In the 1950’s the Democrat Party was dead in California.....There was a book written later on in the decade about how a determined group of South San Franciscan Fisherman (mostly Italian) revived, and rebuilt the Dem party helped greatly by post WWII emigration from the Democratic and liberal east coast/midwest......thanks fellows....take em back!!! (Re: The Golden Bear)
I grew up 1 mile from where Gen. G S Patton grew up, and about 2 miles from the military academy his grandfather started. Each morning I looked out the back window of our house at MT Wilson named for Patton’s maternal grandfather.
You're absolutely correct. I posted at length about this last night after her disgusting "compromise" blather and near-hysterical non-stop ravings on the Factor where she's subbing for the Bloviator.
She has bought lock, stock and barrel the socialist Kool-Aid about Armageddon and Death in the Afternoon if the debt ceiling isn't raised....and, adding insult to injury, she allowed a ditzy babe "economist" to rant on and on and on about the world coming to an end if the "Tea Party" pressure prevails....and Ingraham didn't interrupt or correct her in any way.
Too bad, Laura, you were always a favorite with freepers. Well, you can wallow in the dark side without me from now on if that's where you're headed. Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann have demonstrated real guts under fire from the enemy....you have folded up like a cheap suit on this issue.
I suggest to retain the integrity I know you have had in the past that you get out from under O'Reilly's Machiavelian influence like Glenn Beck thankfully did....and get out of the glam NY, DC and LA nexus into fly-over-country once in a while to see the reality of Obamafascism on the middle class.

>> Too bad, Laura, you were always a favorite with freepers
Good riddance. You tend to lose a few on the arch of liberty.
Boehner is YOUR guy. He is a morally and legally corruptocrat in GOP drag who lives for the good old boy, go along get along, and, above all be paid off by every useless special interest to get nothing done. He will NEVER be my guy. Be a lot more careful in including me in any "we" with you.
If I complained about a Steve King or a Connie Mack, I would be complaining like a liberal. Boehner is again what YOU have. Congratulations on nothing and on selling out this country and the conservative movement in favor of a political stumblebum like Boehner. Defending Boehner is being a liberal whiner willing to take any mess of pottage and turn away any actual opportunity in order to go along and get along. You are also defending Boehner 's craven methods of demanding that newly elected members piss all over the voters who elected them and the promises they have made. Don't you ever complain about broken promises here if you are willing to defend this slime.
After Pearl Harbor, Admiral Husband Kimmel (commander there on 12/7/41) was NOT part of the victorious team of the post-Pearl Harbor Navy. Since Boehner is probably less of a Congressthing than Kimmel was a naval officer and more of a disaster, we don't have to go to war with him. If he really must continue in Congress, he should formally join the corruptocrat caucus and stop embarrassing the GOP by pretending to be Republican. He can even have a good cry as he leaves.
What divides the right is the spinelessness of the habitual losers who will take absolutely ANYTHING, however trivial, and bring out the oompah bands to celebrate another rank capitulation to the enemies of the movement and the country. The liberals cannot divide the right. Only those who pose as conservatives while acting as fifth columnists can do that. My generation spent sixteen years from 1964 relentlessly working to elect Ronaldus Maximus as POTUS. We did not do that by making believe that the ruling class jerks like Gerald Ford or Richard Nixon or Lowell Weicker or Jacob Javits or Judas Jeffords or Robert Stafford or Ed Brooke or John Lindsay (Look, Muffy, a REPUBLICAN mayor of New York and one of US!!!) were worthy of any respect whatsoever much less to be followed as though they were leaders.
The rules of the game are that money bills must constitutionally be initiated in the House. The Demonrats can do it our way and cut Comrade O's allowance severely and immediately or they can fry ice. No more sellouts. No more whores as GOP leaders. No more TARPs. No more bailouts. No more "Too big to fail." No more golfing with Hussein. No more of GOP leaders putting their lips on autosmooch for Hussein's butt.
I have no idea what NRA may have done as to Harry Reid. Nor do I care what an organization capable of choosing David Keene (who makes Boehner look honest and principled) as its president may have done. This would not be the first time in history that the NRA is run by accommodationists. Charlton Heston had to drive the money changers from the temple in ears past. The NRA has a faction that would like to make it an environmentalist outfit or to stress hunting as opposed to personal defense. There are others who take the traditional gun rights position without apology. Gun Owners of America and the Second Amendment Foundation and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms do not have environmentalist whacko factions diluting the message. NRA often endorses outright bad candidates based upon either their view of "electability" or a focus on selected gun votes only (geared to justify supporting favorites regardless of ideology). Ummmm, one does not expect the AFL-CIO to endorse Marco Rubio which would be parallel behavior on the left.
I don't want to protest the game. I want to recognize that it is no game. It is the future of the USA and of Western Civilization. I want to see the GOP purged of liberals, "moderates," whores and corruptocrats in GOP drag and a newly purposeful GOP destroy the Demonrat Party by getting the respect of the electorate the old fashioned way by EARNING IT! You, OTOH, are sooooo "cunning" as to give Hussein, Reid, Pelousy, Schmucky Chewmer, et al. 98% of what they want, get virtually nothing for the conservative side and be running around with the high fives for Weepy Boehner as somehow "brilliant!" May God protect us from the delusions of the "cunning!"
As far as sitting behind my keyboard, I'll match resumes with you anytime. I was a Reagan state chairman when he challenged Feckless Loser Ford (John Boehner's linear political ancestor in the Let's Make a Deal faction of the alleged GOP). I was a Congressional nominee at 27 years of age and did better than any non-incumbent Republican in my state and did it on a tiny campaign fund with a surplus in a district held for two years by a Republican since 1958. I was a volunteer attorney for 1100 people arrested occupying abortion mills and desterilizing their instruments, actually saving babies while the Boehners snicker up their sleeves on pro-life issues or sniffle on TV when merely criticized. 30 of 1100 were convicted of anything, mostly of equivalents of parking tickets having been arrested on felony charges I was also a volunteer attorney for arrested NRA members, none of whom were convicted of anything. Those are a few achievements and there are a lot more where they came from. Whatcha got?
On other threads, JimRob has denounced the craven deals offered by Boehner. Rush does not agree with you. Hannity does not agree with you. Mark Levin does not agree with you. Weepy Boehner DOES agree with you. Lowell Weicker probably agrees with you. You get the picture.
Yes, you are a legend in your own mind.
But, I notice that you are one who lost every battle you put on your resume. Nice track record.
Its too bad you can't learn from your past. Your principles are fine and true, but unless you win battles, they are worthless.
Since you don't win battles, this conversation is over. I am looking for ways to win short-term battles, not for ways to be "pure" and cede ground to the enemy as they win the war.
