A day after the House postponed its vote on Speaker John Boehner's Budget Control Act, Washington remains at a stalemate. Follow our live blog below for the latest developments.
9:10 a.m. The White House announces that President Obama will deliver a statement at 10:20 a.m.
9:08 a.m. Hotline's Sean Sullivan reports that 22 Republicans are still no votes. He'll be updating the whip count all day, which can be found here.
8:49 a.m. Lawmakers are reacting to last night's events, and we're collecting that reaction here.
8:03 a.m. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., says Senate Majority Leader Harry Reids deficit reduction plan is bad, but Boehners is worse in a Wall Street Journal op-ed published today.

Is he going to join Carney’s warning that the Republicans are ruining Christmas?
IF Door #1 is “bad”
and Door #2 is “worse”
I am willing to see who has the courage to choose Door #3 (do nothing and keep working on “good” or “better”)
It will be the same old song......
When do we hit the spending limit? The White House says we will hit it on Aug 2. Everyone seems to agree that we will hit it on Aug 2.
The good news is that we know how much we are spending....theoretically, anyway. As big as this government is, one wonders how anyone can keep track of a gazillion big and little offices spread around the world and what they are spending.
But, they claim they know, and they claim that it is Aug 2. Maybe it’s actually today they hit 14.2 and maybe it’s 2 weeks from now. I suspect they’re estimating when 14.2 trillion gets hit, that they don’t actually know for certain.
When we do hit it, a law kicks in that says Congress must approve any spending beyond that limit.
Call it the skeptic in me, but I wonder when they started putting spending limits on spending and what they did prior to the requirement of spending limits.
I suspect they just authorized each expenditure individually and gave authority to spend (borrow) that amount of money.
More than likely...
I guess he got some rest! Actually from what I gather, this is about the time he stumbles into the Oval office to check on tee times, vacation plans and white house reception planning.
No way he says the dems have to stop blocking plans....or if he calls this a compromise, someone should ask, if it is a compromise between parties, why no house dems vote for it?
If he is tired, he could blow at that point....or better still, someone should ask again, did you not vote against a ceiling request in 2006? Watch him blow and watch for the hook to come out.
Actually I won’t I have to get my hair cut around then and then onto something equally interesting like checking for lawn growth by the blade.
If it is so important to the democrats that the house vote for Boehner’s current debt plan, then how come most of the house democrats are still voting no???
Why is all the emphasis on 25 republicans???
Why aren’t the house democrats being “whipped” by their own leadership???
If the senate needs Boehner’s current plan passed, as a vehicle or whatever, WHAT THE HELL IS STOPPING IT???
25 republicans in the house hardly make a majority.
Says “a statement”. I don’t see His Highness taking any questions today. Not with the GDP numbers including the last quarter revision out. And, by 10:20 a stock market that should be off a couple hundred points unless his men are in full manipulation mode and they don’t usually get up before noon.
Where have you been? You act like you're shocked that there's gambling going on. Don't you know that the recovery was well underway until the Tea Party wrecked it? That's what thew Dems and the media want. Someone to share the blame. The 2012 bumper stickers are being printed now.
Good points
If the WH press spokesman and MEdia criticism is of congressional radicals failing to support Boner’s plan, then Boner needs to make a public appeal for 25 democrats to help pass it
Another reason there will be no questions taken. Down 110 at the open.
No way can he get away with that. The GDP numbers were in the cards before the major debt negotiations of the past two weeks were under way.
Oh God. Not this childish fool again.
Why doesn’t he just go play golf
or shoot hoops or play Wii.
The adults have real work to do now.
We will call in the child-king idiot
when we are ready for him.
Well, he got away with getting elected. Its all been child’s play since then.
