Scandal: A former ATF special agent tells Congress a National Security Council staffer was informed about Operation Fast and Furious before guns allowed into Mexico wound up at the murder scene of a U.S. agent.
The latest evidence that both the White House and attorney general knew and approved of Project Gunrunner and its deadly offshoot, Operation Fast and Furious, came this week in the testimony of William Newell, ATF special agent in charge of the Phoenix office, before Rep. Darrell Issa's House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
That the "stench of cover-up," as Fox News analyst Brit Hume described the administration's handling of the matter, may reach even into the Oval Office itself was evidenced by Newell's testimony that he communicated with Kevin O'Reilly, a staffer on President Obama's National Security Council, about Operation Fast and Furious in September 2010.
O'Reilly was national security director for North America tasked with monitoring the activities of Mexican drug cartels. We are asked to believe he inquired about a program that was providing the cartels with guns but kept what he found out to himself.
That date, by the way, is three months before weapons permitted to "walk" into Mexico were found at the scene in Arizona were U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was murdered. Newell said O'Reilly had inquired about the status of Project Gunrunner to brief administration officials before a trip to Mexico.
Newell sent O'Reilly the requested information with the caveat, "You didn't get this from me."
Why was a National Security Council staffer asking about an operation that no one in the upper echelons of the administration was supposed to be aware of? We find it hard to believe it was for O'Reilly's personal amusement. Why would Newell request that he not be acknowledged as the source?

From what I understand the Mexicans have already complained that efforts to track the source of guns they found (that unbeknownst to them were part of F&F) were rebuffed, and no info provided. I’d have to dig to remember where I saw that. I quite frankly think they dumped these guns all over because they love the meme that gun violence is the fault of conservatives and the 2nd amendment. There is something very wrong with the whole picture, not just incompetence or idiocy.
This smells so bad.. Law Enforcement? Good God.. people died at the hands and out of the barrels of weapons ‘planted’ to track the bad guys.
It takes a real brain trust to come up with that scheme, yet.. considering it is already a war zone,, who knows how much worse the nincompoops have made it..
ask the families of the dead.. all I can offer.
and the media turns its head.. what a country, indeed.
Nothing. They are scared as crap to fight our dictator King Obama. Just making noise.
The most amazing thing is the media’s complicity in what, at this point, must be considered the whitehouse coverup.
I mean, for crying out loud, this makes Watergate and Irancontra seem like nothing. Watergate was a third rate burlary, and Irancontra was an attempt to free hostages.
Fast & Furious is pure evil, walking guns to drive up murder rates in Mexico in order to drive American attitudes against the RKBA.
Pure evil.
Is impeachment and removal from office for treason the most that can happen to a sitting president?
So Obama did try to engineer favorable facts and his efforts did blow up in his face, getting people killed.
My dream, yes it’s a dream, is that when the criminality is finally factually tied tot he White House, and David Axelsleazy sends his talking points tot he alphabet vermin to spin the truth into nothingness, someone at just one of the networks popsts the talking points on the Internet, exposing the media as the criminal conspirators they are.
both the White House and attorney general knew and approved of Project Gunrunner and its deadly offshoot, Operation Fast and Furious
"It's adorable how you still act surprised."
At this point I’m not convinced he wasn’t arming an invasion.
After all, it would fit with the weather underground plot to seize control of America with the help of outsiders. (and we have at least 30 million illegals here already)
Gunwalker: Smoking Gun Email? An internal ATF email seems to support the assertion that Fast and Furious was a PR stunt for gun control.
PJMs Bob Owens has long speculated that the primary reason for Operation Fast and Furious was to perpetuate the lie that 90 percent of illegal firearms in Mexico were from the United States.
Owens assertion was buoyed on Wednesday by internal ATF emails obtained by Townhall.com. One email reads:
"Can you see if these guns were all purchased from the same FfL and at one time. We are looking at anecdotal cases to support a demand letter on long gun multiple sales. Thanks Mark R. Chait Assistant Director Field Operations."
Time to begin developing the charges of impeachment in the House.
Bump. Thanks for the post.
It's not really splitting hairs (you'll pardon the expression...) to say that there's a big difference between "pubies" and "'pubbies"...
You’re welcome!
Good one...
Heads should roll here. Right up the chain! This had to be OKed by our jackwagon president.
He is beyond toast in 2012. |
Maybe Issa will suggest that he pretend to be ill, step down or face impeachment. Of course he thinks so highly of himself that he would be happy with riots in the streets with Sheila Jackson Lee and Al Sharpton in the lead.
