Senate Democrats Promise to Reject Boehner Plan
NY Times ^ | July 27, 2011 | MICHAEL D. SHEAR

Posted on 07/28/2011 10:55:40 AM PDT by CharlyFord

Fifty-three Democratic senators have signed a letter to House Speaker John A. Boehner saying they intend to vote against his plan for an increase in the debt ceiling, virtually assuring its defeat in the Senate even as the speaker lines up Republican votes to pass it in the House on Thursday.

Votes are not final until they are cast. But if the Democrats hold to their promise in the letter, Mr. Boehner’s plan for a six-month increase in borrowing authority will not make it to President Obama’s desk.

Who's obstructing our current Government from doing business as prescribed by the Constitution?? The Senate dimocrats of course!! They are rejecting the bill before it has been submitted to them. They haven't read it. But, they never do! Will the MSM report it this way?? No!!

Pass it anyway, and make them kill it. Then refuse to vote on the Reid bill.

We write legisaltion.
They write letters promising not to pass our legislation.
And the president campaigns for re-election.

Not enough adults in the room.

Let me guess, “unexpected”....”compromise”....”playing politics”....”Bush and Republicans fault”...... =.=

If I was Beohner, I would stop submitting proposals and tell the Dems to frak off... =.=

Then let them own it all.

Signed by ALL Dem senators??? That’s great news. I can see the commercials now against Manchin, Nelson and McCaskill.

Exactly.

“House Speaker John A. Boehner saying they intend to vote against his plan for an increase in the debt ceiling, virtually assuring its defeat in the Senate”

If we had 41 Republican Senators with a spine, they would also release a letter saying, “Guess what, Harry yours is dead as well because we aren’t going to let you vote on it!”

The house bill was sent last Friday. CCB is on the table.

I seem to have missed something, Is that the kind of compromise everyone was talking about? Just asking.

OUTSTANDING!!

There are 53 Democrat Senators who have just painted a very large kick me on their backs.

There is no way out of the hole they have just jumped into.

They keep their word and their next election can very well be their last. They don't keep their word and Harry Reid will make sure they don't get anything more passed.

“Pass it anyway, and make them kill it. Then refuse to vote on the Reid bill.”

And send back a more austere second House plan. Kill a liberal program each time. NPR, for instance. NEA the next time. Keep killing their sacred cows, one by one, till they accept a House plan. If BO vetoes, kill three of their sacred cows in the next House plan, or defund in its entirety some African or Jihadist whoopee money program. Grind some budgetary bootheels on their boondoggle plums.

Fight. For once.

Or be replaced.

I believe Bohner and the republicans have missed the boat by not proposing the “freeze the budget and reduce spending by 1% option” that has been bandied about.

Freezing the budget and reducing spending by 1% per year is easy to explain to the public and are simple, clear ideas that are understandable and sound like reasonable alternatives.

I hope there is enough Republicans who love their children and mine to reject the Boehner plan. The plan is a slow motion train wreck, doesn’t fix anything, won’t create an environment for business, jobs or security. KILL IT! If the Democrats want to reject a bill, at least make it a good one!

And send back a more austere second House plan.

Yes, each successive submission to the senate should be more austere, not the other way around. As it is, CCB went with all sorts of promising features: Comprehensive, bi-partisan; even had some holes that gave the senate a chance to put their brand it it too. What happened? House sends the less-austere Boehner bill... and from the looks of things, they will get even less austere as Reed takes that and brands it with his hot iron.

Precisely. Now, if we can get any Republican ‘leaders’ out of cringing, beaten dog mode and into a hunting pack mindset, we can tear the enemy in pieces.

And yes, they are enemies. Anyone who uses the term ‘colleague’ is an accomplice, a collaborator.

Tactically it would be better to vote the Reid bill down rather then "refusing" to vote on it. No point in giving the MSM any ammo about "petulant' Republicans being "obstructionists". Lord knows the MSM will never make an issue of the Senate non-vote.

GtG

NO! Do not pass the kick-the-can-ten-years load of crap. It isn't worth the paper it's printed on. It does not meet any conservative goals. It is unenforceable beyond the current Congress. Pass the Cut, Cap, and Balance bill instead. Make them kill that. At least it enjoyed full support of the Republicans in both Houses and met some of the conservative ambitions. When the liberals have already promised obstruction, dig in with the strongest bill you have. Otherwise you've already given up too much before the real bartering begins. The Boehner bill is, to be kind, a crap sandwich. Boehner and Cantor have truly stabbed us in the back by undermining CCB. They are doing the liberals' dirty work for them. They are snatching defeat from the jaws of victory before our very eyes.

In a very cynical way this is the best possible result. The Boehner Plan doesn't cut nearly enough. So by rejecting it the Dems take the blame and we get a massive across the board cut when the money runs out some time next month. It won't be 12:01 on the second like Obama says, but it will probably be some time in August.
