Sorry, but I’m not convinced. I used to be. I marched around the state capital all day one saturday showing support during the recount. Then he kept doing stupid things like Harriet Meyers, amnesty, etc. Then comes TARP ‘cause he believed his DEMOCRAT sec of the treasury. To do these things means he’s completely dumb or does not have the country’s best interest in mind. I don’t think he’s dumb. I think I fell for “another weak” Bush. JMO

Interesting. Unfortunately, unless Boehner has some more tricks up his sleeve, the political power plays going on here will doom this bill after it passes the House (as written).

obama is determined to get a higher debt ceiling and eliminate having to revisit the issue in 6 months. That is his sticking point, and now Reid’s.

What will Boehner do next?

--Boehner must have said it's a "bipartisan bill" a dozen times..despite the fact that Reid and Pelosi have both said that NOT ONE DEM will vote for it. --

Well, we work with the army we have, not the one we wish we had.

I don't have any sympathy for the GOP. Their message does not "jazz" me or even warm me. I want them out of my hair.

Your thoughts add another element of insight over what could be playing out, but I believe Rush hit the mark still. Rush was even citing Reid comments that were just surfacing at the very moment Rush was saying this, Reid saying he could indeed amend Boehner’s bill to reflect what he and the Democrats felt was better for our country.

Thus... if they pass the Boehner bill, it will be replaced by the Senate with what the Dems want and worse yet, with possibly Boehner’s name still on the bill, and Boehner will either have to reject his own bill then and look foolish or possibly accept it with a call to “just go on and get this over with”.

I have heard numerous here calling for a renewed call for a vote on CC&B — The Senate did not vote against it, only to table it which, if I understand it correctly, means debate and vote was tabled FOR THAT MOMENT which then means it could easily be put up for vote at a later time (which could be NOW).

In that instance, there would be no ability to say the House is dysfunction since the CCB plan had votes of BOTH Republicans and Democrats in the House. It was a bipartisan vote.

I’m not sure why that is not being supported a little more although I have heard plenty say they want the Senate to debate CC&B. It would just seem that this could be a step in the right direction and would be the least likely to have bad consequences for the Republicans.

Correct. Many posters and Rush do not understand Senate rules. Reid must have 60 to pass anything, and the Senate GOP is not going to allow anything to pass that doesn’t take us closer to Boehner.

You have a much higher opinion of the GOP senators than I do, especially the RINOS. Do you really think senators like McCain, Snowe, Collins, et al, are going to be willing to be the ones blamed by the press and the Dems for the default because they filibustered the bill? No, they would rather vote for cloture, vote against the bill to cover their behinds, then dump the mess back into the lap of the House GOP. John Kyl has already admitted that this is what they will do if the Reid bill is the only one left.

“FWIW, my initial points were: 1) “originate in the House” is just a matter of procedure, not of substance;”

Agreed, sadly.

“and 2) Congress (including the GOP) is not serious about curtailing itself.”

Agreed, tragically.

What everyone is now discussing and what will pass is cuts greater than the debt hike with no new taxes which is exactly what Boehner has wanted for months. The Dems have capitulated. These last few plays are all about the Dems trying to steal credit for the Speaker’s accompishment.

You’ve got it. The spin coming from the White House and the rest of the Dems is that “compromise” is needed.

You are absolutely right, wish I had a dollar for every time in the last two days I have heard that talking point.

If the GOP were really smart they would devise a short, cogent list of "compromises" they have ALREADY made since Simpson-Bowles came down, and the Rat/WH response to them. Memorize them and wash, rinse, repeat them.

My two cents.

tell me why he didn’t do that with CCB?????

Well, I think you already know the answer, but this is the same old same old. The fix is in, and Boehner is either really stupid, or really complicit.

I agree that our representatives need to come home.

They most certainly do not represent me or anyone else I can see other than the us interests of the us federal government.

And I see no need to pay them to do so, no need to give themn a life long pension for doing so.

These people are worse than useless, they are harmful.

“Reid does not have the votes he claims he has; that’s why he’s been using procedural maneuvers. “

BINGO! Reid is trapped.
Let him try trickery, it will only boomerang on him.

Just wait until you see the amended Boehner bill that Reid and Co. dump back on our laps. Then what? We get our heads handed to us by a Conference Committee.

Yes Yes. This is what it was about all along. Boner w/o a boner comes away as the boob he is. The commies & elites rule.

I am not saying Republicans have an easy road with even this bill, unlike Rush who has been claiming for weeks(even without a second bill)they have an easy win , but Republicans passing bills to the Senate which cant pass anything themselves is definitely better for beating Demms than just looking like they refuse to do anything, basically playing out Obama's narrative.

Not unless you can guarantee that we can still pay our creditors what we owe, pay our soldiers, etc. I know I’ve heard that we’ll still be able to do some of this, but to what extent? What will we still be able to pay and what won’t we?

Unfortunately, you don’t get to say your checkbook is balanced when your checking account is empty and you still have bills to pay.

“tell me why he didn’t do that with CCB?????”

Hear, hear!

CCB is the best piece of debt-reduction legislation of all out there so far.

Whatever happens, the House needs to vote on this Boehner legislation, get it to the Senate, hold a press conference telling everyone to take it or shove it; and call it a day. None of the bills are fully to our liking, but they’ve done their job trying to bend... THREE pieces of legislation and nothing from either the Senate or WH.

Except hopefully even the McCain RINOs know that Reid not being able to pass any of his bills (needing 60 votes) gives Republicans MORE leverage and Reid is stuck with a modified bill that HE CANT PASS in either house against a two Boehner bills that have passed one house. So Boehner hopefully plays up that Obama and Reid are the ones saying NO-NO-NO and are disfunctional.

Meanwhile the second Boehner bill is easier to demonize blue dog Senators in their districts for opposing than the first is, giving Republicans even more leverage. Rush always discounts that. Rush regularly talks like every voter is one of his loyal ditto-heads, they are not.
