According to an Army source, one AWOL soldier is in the custody of the Killeen Police Department near Ft. Hood. He was not captured on base. According to another source, two other U.S. soldiers were also arrested earlier today when they were found in possession of weapons and explosives.

Fox News has obtained the names of three possible suspects, but is currently withholding that information.

A shocking decision made by the secretary of the Army last month — in the case of an U.S. Army soldier with the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell who refused to deploy to Afghanistan claiming that Islamic law prevented him from killing other Muslims — vindicates Fort Hood killer Major Nidal Hasan. He made identical claims and threatened that “adverse events” would occur if military officials didn’t accede to shariah principles.

The subject of the Fort Campbell case is PFC Nasser Abdo, who was granted conscientious objector status last month, only to be brought up on charges last week — two days after being informed of the secretary of the Army’s decision — after child pornography was found on his government-issued computer. The news reports about Abdo’s arrest were the first to mention the Army recognizing him as a conscientious objector. After his arrest, Abdo is now claiming that the child porn charges are the Army’s way of retaliating against him.

Abdo’s case has been championed by a number of media outlets, including Al-Jazeera and CNN. According to the Associated Press, in his claim for conscientious objector status, Abdo cited a number of Islamic scholars and Koranic verses in his defense:

I realized through further reflection that God did not give legitimacy to the war in Afghanistan, Iraq or any war the U.S. Army would conceivably participate in.

Abdo told Al-Jazeera:

I don’t believe I can involve myself in an army that wages war against Muslims. I don’t believe I could sleep at night if I take part, in any way, in the killing of a Muslim.

He also told ABC News:

A Muslim is not allowed to participate in an Islamicly unjust war. Any Muslim who knows his religion or maybe takes into account what his religion says can find out very clearly why he should not participate in the U.S. military.

In a perverse twist, the ABC News report noted that a website dedicated to his cause operated by his friends claimed that Abdo:

… will be at danger of harassment and even death from his fellow soldiers, many of whom will be resentful of PFC Abdo’s religious beliefs and his desire to be discharged from the military.

So Abdo just wakes up one morning in KY and decides to jump in his car and go for a drive. He just happens to wind up in TX near Ft Hood. I’d be looking at connections between muslim centers at each end of the trip. I know there’s the one in Killeen. Is there one near FT Campbell? Is this guy known at each?

Praise God they caught this guy.

Please Lord, protect those serving in harm’s way for our nation and continue to expose those that would plot to hurt them. Protect our military also from the horrible policies put in place by poor leaders who put political correctness above the safety of our troops. In Jesus name. Amen

AWOL Muslim Soldier Objected to Fighting Muslims

He disappeared after being charged with possession of Child pornography:

MSNBC:The Army says a Muslim soldier from Fort Campbell who won conscientious objector status but then was charged with possessing child pornography has gone AWOL.

Spokesman Rick Rzepka said Wednesday that Pfc. Naser Abdo has been absent without leave since the July 4th weekend.

Abdo, a 21-year-old infantry soldier, had applied for conscientious objector status last year saying his Muslim beliefs prohibited his service in any war.

UPDATE III: Jennifer Griffin stated police apparently found explosive materials in Abdo’s backpack as well as jihadi material. The reason he was picked up was he was purchasing explosive materials and ammunition from several gun stores and the owners alerted the police.

UPDATE IV: FOX updated the link:

Pvt. Nasser Jason Abdo, an AWOL soldier from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, was arrested by the Killeen Police Department near Fort Hood and remains in custody there. Authorities, however, will not say if Abdo is the one who raised security concerns.

Abdo was allegedly found with explosives and jihadist materials at the time of his arrest, a senior Army source confirms to Fox News. He was arrested at around 2 p.m. Wednesday after someone called authorities to report a suspicious individual.

Soldier had bomb-making materials in Killeen motel room, officials say

Federal authorities said they will likely charge an AWOL Army soldier today with having bomb-making components, including “a significant amount of gunpowder,” in his Killeen hotel room near Fort Hood.

Killeen police officers Wednesday arrested Pvt. Nasser Jason Abdo after learning that he was wanted by the Army on a child pornography charge, FBI spokesman Erik Vasys said.

Vasys said that through the Killeen police investigation, authorities found Abdo’s hotel room and materials that included the gunpowder and other items “that could be considered bomb-making components.”

He was arrested at America’s Best Value Inn on South Fort Hood Road, Killeen police said.

“We don’t know what his motivation was at this time,” Vasys said. “We are trying to learn all things about Mr. Abdo, about what his possible motivations and intentions were.”

Vasys added, “Any threat that was posed by this individual is now over.”

George Wright, an Army spokesman, said he was not aware of anything linking Abdo to a larger plot among soldiers against Army installations.

“I’m not seeing anything to that effect,” Wright said, stressing that he is not a spokesman for the ongoing FBI and Killeen Police Department investigation.

Abdo, whose hometown is Garland, entered the Army in March of 2009 and was assigned to the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell when he went AWOL on July 4, Wright said.

Fort Hood officials said security measures remained the same at the post today.

Good for those gun store owners! They were alert. At an arport, he would have been given a pass.

About gun store owners -— I wonder if there are any who have connections and/or sympathies to Muslim interests.
