Rick Perry Categorizes Abortion as a States' Rights Issue

ABC News' Arlette Saenz (@arlettesaenz) reports:

Despite holding personal pro-life beliefs, Texas Gov. Rick Perry categorized abortion as a states’ rights issue today, saying that if Roe v. Wade was overturned, it should be up to the states to decide the legality of the procedure.

“You either have to believe in the 10th Amendment or you don’t,” Perry told reporters after a bill signing in Houston. “You can’t believe in the 10th Amendment for a few issues and then [for] something that doesn’t suit you say, 'We’d rather not have states decide that.'”

The 10th Amendment reads: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Moral corruption. Also, abortion was so dangerous there was hardly any point making it illegal.

Doesn't follow. If the legislatures that voted on ratification the 14th amendmedment understood it to require both abortion and slavery be made illegal, they would have done it as soon as the amendment was ratified.

I asked for evidence. Unsubstantiated claims of "moral corruption" are not evidence.

Economic necessity. Many were opposed to it, but ending it would have disrupted and destroyed agricultural production in the South, at a time when we could ill afford to.

England had still not recognized our independence, and we were faced with the probability of invasion by British forces and war in our very near future, and we desperately needed that capacity.

Obviously, based upon your critique, Palin ain’t your candidate. Based upon your apparent one issue abortion fanaticism, I assume you oppose abortion in cases of rape, incest, and life of mother. You won’t like me telling you this, but you are in a distinct minority of conservatives with that opinion.

Now, please tell us who your candidate is or as I asked previously, are you afraid.
