Boehner: 'Get your ass in line' By: Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan July 27, 2011 09:55 AM EDT
Scrambling for votes on his troubled deficit package, Speaker John Boehner told GOP lawmakers Wednesday morning to get your ass in line behind his debt ceiling bill, saying the Senate will fold and pass it.
This is the bill, Boehner said in a closed-door meeting of House Republicans on Wednesday morning. I cant do this job unless youre behind me.
Boehner was forced to postpone the vote until Thursday after the Congressional Budget Office said it fell $150 billion short of the $1 trillion goal. Many GOP lawmakers are still undecided whether they will back the measure.
Boehner also predicted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) and Senate Democrats will have to pass his proposal once the House does. Reid has an alternate plan to cut $2.7 trillion.
If this gets chaotic, they (the Senate) will fold like a cheap suit, Boehner said, according to GOP sources.

The tea party is the only reason this stuff is even being talked about, that’s the good thing. Hopefully those people who supported the TP understand they make up a large minority of the majority in one house of the Congress and don’t own the WH. I think Allen West gets that, but people here are already calling him a sell out. My point is we need more people to get things done, so lets get what we can now, get the Senate and WH back in 2012 and then start cracking heads.
I would like to know exactly what the end-game strategy is for conservatives who urge opposition to the Boehner bill.
At least I can see what Boehner is up to; I don’t like it, but I understand how it puts us in a better position than we are today.
I don’t see the victory in defeating a bill out of the house. If the goal is to force him to tweak his plan some to make it better, I understand and support that, but if the goal is to defeat it no matter what he does to it, I’d like to see what they think will happen in the end.
Is the goal to get nothing, to give Obama the credit for “solving” the crisis, and then hope that america will reward conservatives for this by electing republican majorities in the house, senate, and white house so we can reverse the damage? I don’t see how that plays out.
Is the goal to prevent the debt ceiling increase, with the intent that we never borrow any more than we already owe now, and that will force spending cuts and we’ll be better off? That would be a fantastic result, but how is that ever going to happen?
Presuming Boehner is wrong-headed as they say he is when he’s in a position of power as he is now, do they really think that, two weeks from now, faced with a manufactured debt crisis (Obama has the power to manipulate almost everything that happens to his favor, and the media will back him), that Boehner and at least 40 other soft republicans WON’T bolt and do anything they can to stop the “pain”, just like they did on TARP?
And once they do, do you think we’ll get ANYTHING else out of this republican congress? Or do you think that the resolution will make people love the conservatives more?
IN some ways, I see this as the same question we are asking the democrats — WHAT IS THE PLAN? Boehner has made an actual plan, which makes it easy to attack him because we don’t like it. WHAT IS THE conservative alternative plan?
(Not “what is the conservative position” — I know that, we’ve passed it, and it is dead. Do we think Reid and Obama are going to get scared about the fate of the country, and capilulate to that plan? When have the democrats done what is good for the country? Why would they start now?)
I’m ready to back the “say no” strategy, but I want to see that it is logical, thought-out, and has a reasonable chance of achieving a better end.
“Get your ass in line”... so you can get ****ed in it.
FOAD, Boner.
“But there should certainly be no compromise on what is right”
In regard to morality, definitely.
In regard to governmental politics, there’s seldom a consensus on what is “right”, so theoretically neither side gets to have it all their own way (although Obama is doing his best to destroy that premise).
If the GOP gets the blame for a market meltdown (which could happen if the dems and media succeed in convincingly painting them as obstructionists to a fickle public), they’ll have shot themselves in the foot.
The GOP is going to get blamed one way or the other - about one thing or another.
The “I can’t do what is best for the United States because I don’t want to be blamed by foolish liberal tools who will NEVER vote GOP anyway” game - lacks integrity.
I have a suggestion.. Boehner get your head out of yours (ass) and work for the taxpaying American People, notice this is not all Americans. Do we have any plans to replace this nitwit for the next inevitable crisis ?
“The I cant do what is best for the United States because I dont want to be blamed by foolish liberal tools who will NEVER vote GOP anyway game - lacks integrity.”
How does integrity play into this?
It’s a numbers game.
The sad reality is that socialists and liberals control 2/3 of the federal government.
The other 1/3 has a choice: Either go down in political flames or live to fight another battle.
The integrity problem lies with our fellow citizens who voted for the socialist majority that comprises the other 2/3.
We had the slimmest of majorities in the Senate, which vanished when Jumpin' Jim Jeffords went Independent. We also had a RINO president, and the senate was filled with RINOs like Trent Lott. My congressman at the time, Tom Delay was as spend-crazy as the rest of them, which is why I'm glad we have the rep we have now (Pete Olson). I am just hoping we get a non-RINO president and fewer senate RINOs.
In any case, Baraq has to go. We cannot function in a climate in which opposition to a president is considered racism by state run media cheerleaders.
I am just hoping we get a non-RINO president and fewer senate RINOs.
I hope so too. Only conservatives can save this country now.
Either Bonehead is the worst negotiator or the fix is in. Either way, he must go.
But, those who voted for the 2/3 you speak of are not going to vote any other way for any reason. They do not care about the Constitution or Rule of Law.
Each time we roll over and show our bellies the dem party becomes stronger and a totalitarian government that much closer.
We sent the new conservatives in there to "fight a battle". This IS our day to win - not wave a white flag because of the numbers game.
Have we learned nothing? The Lamestream Media, that is to say O-bozo sycophants, will fall all over themselves to make him look like the victim of the mean old GOP.
Worse yet, all the sheeple who appear on Jay Leno's 'Jaywalking' epsiodes will buy it hook, line and sinker.
I cant do this job unless youre behind me.
Well Mr. Speaker... stop turning your ass around to the president, and bending over!
Then quit.

Politico: NY Times Lite
"The three core elements of leadership are personal example, effective management, and moral responsibility. In stressing the importance of the human element of leadership, CAPT Noel would probably be considered old fashioned in today's technology infatuated military. A word to contemporary military strategists now embracing anthropology and other "soft" techniques about CAPT Noel's definition of "moral responsibility:"
"The difference between Hitler and Churchill was not only their methods but in their motives. Irresponsible leadership threatens, bluffs, deceives, and oppresses; morally responsible leadership guides firmly and honestly, with every possible regard for human dignity."
This smacks of panic on Boehner’s part. These people are hearing from home and the message is simple: No debt increase and trillions in spending cuts.
His threat is as empty as he is. The good news is we now know who the man is—a full-fledged flaming RINO. Just like McCain has unmasked himself as the same.
In a perverse way the perverse budget dance has had one positive result. And that is the unmasking of Boehner, McCain and some others as the true RINOs they are.
This appeared in Politico, so, No Credibility Alert. The sentiment expressed is could be correct, but we’ll never know, because there’s too much pissing and moaning.
The budget proposals will wind up in conference committee, and IMHO won’t get settled until Christmas at the earliest. Since the partisan media is shilling fulltime on behalf of Zero, Mob-Ties Harry, and Tuna-Plant Nancy, the Demwit Party of the Single Party State can count on amnesia about the absolute limit of early August for the raising of the debt ceiling.
