WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama's advisers would recommend that he veto a bill authored by House Speaker John Boehner to cut government spending and raise the debt ceiling in two stages, the White House said Tuesday. The House is expected to vote on the Republican bill on Wednesday.

“President Barack Obama’s advisers would recommend that he veto a bill authored by House Speaker John Boehner to cut government spending and raise the debt ceiling in two stages, the White House said Tuesday”

You mean the teleprompter is telling him to veto it? Why would as great a president as (.)bama need advisors to tell him what to do? No, this is just more cover for the jerk, that is, with nothing left but to veto it, he will pass. This guy is a coward...put it to him, of course if you can get it through the Senate.

Boehner’s plan is not that exciting but he’s not in an easy situation. He has to actually do something and all we have to do is gripe.

As Rush said today, we need to elect more conservatives.

If we could just add to our 2010 results, our problems could end. Of course, that includes replacing Obama.

IMO, the best plan of action for Boehner and the Republican house is to plainly state what is obvious to everyone. And that is Obama has no intention of letting the debt ceiling crisis go to waste. It's plain he has sabotaged every plan presented, including one from his own Senate Democrats.

Therefore the house should rest its efforts on the CCB bill already passed and move on to the FY 2012 budget.

Put the ball firmly in the Obama and the Senate court. Give them full ownership and begin work on a budget for the coming year that takes into account, a 40% drop in revenue, payment priority, and bondholder relief.

Doesn’t a Senator who voted against have to bring it back up? I “think” that is how that works....which would mean, I think, that Reid could bring it back up.

I don’t follow, though, why Reid would allow CCB to pass, and then drop it in Zero’s lap. Is Reid that ticked off at him? That would be truly monumental...and the final blow to any re election that Obama would have, and with the coup de grace from his own Majority Leader! I think it would be hilarious, but I’m not sure why Reid would do that. What am I missing here?

You're not missing anything. That won't happen.

At this point, I think our best move is to pass a version of CCB that can pass the Senate and then dare Obambi to veto it.

Didn’t Boehner’s plan include an agreement that the Senate would vote on cut, cap and balance?

Not ticked off: just spitballing but I wonder if the strat wasn’t to somehow “keep it alive” if the House didn’t cave, so that the Senate wouldn’t be blamed for the shutdown.

I don’t believe his last plan did but certainly one of ‘em did, IIRC.

If you really want to pass something, I think it really boils down to something like this, (step by step):

1). Pass deep cuts (and at least $100 B in cuts for next year- same as CCB, with a requirement for the BBA vote soon) in the House

2). Have McConnell pull his people together in the Senate (and try to force a vote on CCB at the same time)

3). Burn down the phones and put unbearable pressure on phony “fiscally conservative moderate” Democrats to get the rest of the needed votes- isolate them (Alinsky-style...) and blame them personally for the possibility of default until they get on board

4). When it passes, repeat the words “Bipartisan bill” endlessly

5). Then, if Obama vetoes- so be it.  He owns it.

Much better strategy. Make Obozo veto it.

It's not really a promise of veto. The statement carefully says Obama's advisors would recommend he veto. Wiggle room galore.

These people are lawyers. You have to parse. The press runs with the "omg! he'll veto! panic! dead on arrival! killed! doom!" headline because it furthers the White House ends of scaring people.

The 0 has been pushing the American people, whom he HATES-hoping to spark a revolution he can then have his army put down thereby saving the Country from the Patriotic Americans —In his delusions he sees himself as Captain Zimbabwe or something.

I honestly don’t know why parts of the Boehner proposal are even necessary (especially in scaling back next year’s cuts to a mere $7 Billion)- we already have 5 Democrats in the House on board agreeing to $100 B in near-term cuts by voting for CCB last week.

"Rating agencies state they may lower America’s credit rating as soon as this Friday.

Read it again and let that sink in.

The reason provided has nothing to do with the debt ceiling. Nothing at all. However, it does have everything to do with one of those two words. That word is debt. Even if a debt ceiling increase passed today or two weeks ago – if it did not include a long-term plan to restructure the country’s debt, rating agencies would lower America’s credit rating regardless.

This must be spread far and wide. The downgrade that is coming has nothing to do with the failure to raise the debt ceiling. It has everything to do with the amount of debt. Those who are going to downgrade us have said as much. Therefore any downgrade is not the fault of the Republican’s for failure to give Obama what he wants, but rather rests squarely on the shoulders of Obama and the liberals for increasing debt at an astronomical pace since the President took office."

so that the Senate wouldn’t be blamed for the shutdown”

yes, right, good point...Reid has about ten Dem senators who think they can salvage their re-election if it looks like they are doing the right thing, and they will be pressing him hard, for sure....

“Exactly what are they “kicking down the road??”

All of the plans put forward so far by the GOP still allow the insane increase of government spending year after year after year. It's accounting gimmickry to say your cutting spending 4 trillion when the end result will be an increase of 6 trillion over ten years.

We have a 14.6 trillion national debt right now, plus an estimated 100 trillion liability that is unfunded for SS and Medicaid over the next 20 years.

We need a plan that cuts the size of government by 2/3rds now, and takes away their credit card.

Dear House: Please call his bluff.

The Boehner bill is getting conservative heat for compromising too much. It cuts spending but not as much as it should. But that’s what can get past the Senate.

If we can get it past the house and senate and then see Obama veto it because it doesnt have his precious tax hikes, that’s what I call a WIN/WIN!
