BOSTON (AP) -- The widening wealth gap between whites and minorities has wiped out gains made over the last 30 years and could foreshadow even more inequality if something isn't done to address it, National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial told the Associated Press on Tuesday.

Speaking a day before the National Urban League begins its annual convention, Morial said new census data analyzed by the Pew Research Center shows that blacks and Latinos have especially been hit hard by the economic meltdown.

Maybe, just maybe, minorities should try and up their graduation rates.

Let’s force those who make good decisions to pay for the consequences of those that make bad decisions.

That will make everything “fair”.

More socialist hand-wringing against the way free markets work.

If the Urban League actually wants to help any segment of the population to prosper, they should preach personal responsibility. Hand-wringing over problems; or looking to Government for Socialist answers has never benefited anyone in the long run.

Shakedown Whitey!

Yeah! Uh huh! Do him now! Off the pigs, waste The Man!

Just a little more civilized way of saying the same thing.

And guess what! Now they want to make a solidarity pact with the Brown Masses of Meheeco to intimidate the Caspers.

Kind of an odd alliance - in LA, they are at each other's throats pretty much all the time.

But hey, the enemy of my enemy....

Funny, how come 40 years of Affirmative Discrimination didn't work?

Wake up... and privatize SS so the poor can pass wealth on to their children instead of welfare.

Funny thing is that there is a big wealth gap even between black and whites that have the same incomes.

Graduation rates are a symptom of no fathers in the homes...
which is a symptom of the cause - the welfare state.

Make it financially undesirable to have babies out of wedlock, and you’ll get a lot more intact families and more wealth. Of course, then you’ll have to have some financial training and some character building such that you can delay gratification and purchase assets instead of consumables.

What's the AP up to? This is the kind of story they are notorious for running when a Republican is in the White House!

WOMEN AND CHILDREN HARDEST HIT!

MAN THE LIFEBOATS!

EVACUATE THE MALL!

BUSH'S FAULT!

Easily explainable in looking at their purchasing habits.
Consumables (and vacations) vs assets.

PSST, hey everyone, Marc Morial is mimicking Vladimir Lenin speak.

Gosh, are we to promote something that has already been tried and has failed (Thank you President Reagan) because YOU follow the dogma of Vladimir Lenin?

Can't you come up with something original so history wouldn't have to repeat itself?

Why are Asians not reported on as Minorities? Is it because they don’t fit the story they are trying to contrive?

doing well in school is “acting white” .. How can they be surprised at lack of success when academic achievement is looked down on?

Exactly!

And, that's just what the Asians did. Specifically, the Chinese. So much so, that now they're not even included in the minority debate.

A complete family unit along with drive & hard work will make good things happen sooner or later.

Yep, graduation from high school is a good first step.

There are other steps too. Stay out of trouble with the law. Avoid the “baby mama” culture, the drug culture, and the gang culture.

And when you do go to work, have a positive attitude. Don’t act like work is beneath you. Don’t provoke confrontations with the boss which will get you fired.

You might even think about going to church sometimes.

It really gets me as to how many problems of minority groups are somehow “self inflicted”. So many keep harping on the legacy of slavery and all that. But all of the legal structures of discrimination are gone, and have been gone for decades. Nobody alive today was a slave.

A rising tide floats all boats. Fix the economy, allow the free market to provide jobs and the income gap will shrink.
