It may not be politically expedient to admit, but Iran is engaged in a live, "hot" war with the United States and its NATO allies -- even as we continue to do business with it.
US officials have recently detailed Iran's latest hostile military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan, including the training and arming of insurgent groups directly responsible for the death of many Americans on the battlefield.

Ford(Ford) and GM(Opel) made money providing material and finished products to the US, Great Britain and Nazi Germany during WW II.
It’s ok, I learned here on FR that corporations are NOT citizens, and their only responsibility is to the shareholders to make a profit.
During the American Civil War Ohio cotton traders were going down river and buying Confederate cotton in exchange for gold. Grant and Sherman tried to stop it but were over ridden by the White House. In the Franco Prussian war of 1870 Prussian stocks and bonds were being traded on the Paris Bourse and vice versa on the Berlin exchange. In addition, trade was conducted between the two belligerents. Nothing stops money.
The Civil War analogy is an apt one.
I never knew how much profiteering went on during that war until I started researching it a while ago.

Guess that makes it right? Is there profit?! Yes? Ok, carry on, nothing to see here.
You appear to assume I approve of trading with the enemy. I don’t! Such trading is treason pure and simple. I am saying it is and has been done.
Perhaps the Union needed the cotton for its war effort. I can imagine that wool underwear would be awfully uncomfortable for soldiers in the field.
It was being sold over seas. The cotton seized by General Sherman as a result of his march to the sea was stamped by him “Property of The United States Treasury.” Those marks were erased and the name of a large cotton brokerage house in New York substituted. Sherman protested by Stanton over rode the protest. That is one reason why Sherman publicly refused to shake Stanton’s hand.
