Rumor has it that Bloomberg published an article that was posted on FR but pulled due to copyright concerns. Without actually giving Bloomberg the hits, one could speculate on whether the rumor is true, and on the implications of GE, who received bailouts and avoided taxes, and whose CEO Jeffery Immelt is also the chair of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness moving operations to a hostile communist power.
Please do continue, and ping anyone else who was rumored to be on the original thread...
Not a rumor. It’s true.
Egads! Imported Chinese x-ray machines spewing forth atomic bomb levels of radiation.
I typed up a rather lengthy reply/refutation, but it got wiped when the thread was pulled.
I can’t retrieve it, and am operating (as usual), under some pretty fierce time constraints. Therefore, I don’t have the time to duplicate my input.
Sorry.
Gosh, why would the chair of the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness move jobs to China?
Good, I wish GE would get the hell out of this country and stay out.
He's adding an enjoyable frisson of Samizdat to FR.
I hate it when that happens.

GE Healthcare to move X-ray team to China
By Rick Barrett of the Journal Sentinel
July 25, 2011 | To better tap emerging markets, GE Healthcare is moving its X-ray equipment headquarters from Waukesha to Beijing.
The move will include the X-ray unit’s top executives, the company said Monday, but otherwise will not affect the 150 or so people it employs in the Milwaukee area, including production employees.
There won’t be job cuts, Anne LeGrand, vice president and general manager of X-ray for GE Healthcare, said at a Beijing news conference.
LeGrand will move to Beijing, along with a “handful” of other key executives, the company said.
The move will help “make the business more nimble and responsive while continuing to strengthen our local focus and grow our global footprint,” LeGrand said. »Read Full Article(181)

Your excellent and highly apropos tag line contains, in full, the answer to that question.
Immelt is everywhere obama is. Why are people so blind? Have they really been brainwashed? I know part of it is they hate republicans so much they refuse to see evil standing in front of them.
It makes sense for GE to move production to where most of the units will be sold. Obama and the Rats want to reduce the amount of this equipment in the US to reduce US health care costs to UK and Canadian levels of non-availability.
GE already builds there ultra sound equipment in India(cause that’s where the market is for sex selected abortion).
The US needs to change our corp taxes to make it easier for companies who earn a lot of money overseas to re-invest in the US..but the GOP just doesn’t seem to get this job done.
” ... speculate on whether the rumor is true, and on the implications ... “
It’s 100% in character for GE, and will be embraced by the unrestrained free trade crowd on FR. I mean, how can you blame GE for lowering production costs? It’s not like GE hasn’t been down this road before.
And, to remind all you folks who think there’s something special about being American, GE is a COMPANY... and companies owe allegiance only to shareholders and profits. If moving production to China harms America in the long run, it’s America’s tough luck.
The above is subject to change if GE experiences a threat in China. Then it becomes an AMERICAN company that needs help from the American government and/or military.
Today the government denied rumors that...
oh fabulous
I work in a hospital. we already have enough shottily-produced Chinese sh*t around here. Something that emits radiation is the last thing we need to be importing from the Chi-Coms.
Lets’ hear it for Baraq Obama
China:
No trial lawyers.
No onerous workmens compensation laws.
No environmentalism/green mythology.
No entitlement mentality among workers that your healthcare is somehow intrinsically tied to your job.
No bureaucratic commissars/inspectors/regulators inspecting every facet of your business (Red China better than the US-embarrassingly ridiculous!).
NO federal administration that openly despises and punishes private sector productivity.
