A key group sponsoring The Response, a day dedicated to prayer for the nation that has been promoted by Texas Gov. Rick Perry, says he "missed an opportunity" when he answered that he "was fine" with New Yorkers' plans to adopt same-sex "marriage" in their state.
Bryan Fischer is director of issue analysis for the American Family Association, a key backer of The Response, and told WND that the organization is not changing any plans to work with Perry over the comment.
But he said, "I think there's probably disappointment in the governor over his comments. There was an opportunity for him to say New York has the right to establish [homosexual 'marriage'] but same-sex marriage is not good public policy."
According to reports, Perry was at a meeting of GOP donors in Aspen, Colo., when he called himself an "unapologetic social conservative" but also said:
"Our friends in New York six weeks ago passed a statute that said marriage can be between two people of the same sex. And you know what? That's New York, and that's their business, and that's fine with me. That is their call. If you believe in the 10th Amendment, stay out of their business."
A spokesman for the governor, Mark Miner, today explained all that Perry has done for traditional marriage, from working on a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as being between one man and one woman to his leadership in passing the Defense of Marriage Act.
But Miner refused to say that the governor, who is considered by many to be running for president although that announcement has not yet been made, should have expressed his support of the 10th Amendment ....

Still waiting for the day the Perry loving FReepers realize this is his MO.
If the quote is accurate, Perry made a series of statements one quickly following the other, like a train of thought.
It appears to me that the part of what New York has done that Perry is “fine with” is that what NY is doing is NY’s business.
Who actually believes that Perry was trying to say that he was fine with gay marriage?
That would make utterly no sense.
Hold not thy breath ;-)
.......”Miner said people who know Perry understand that two things he feels strongly about are states’ rights and the institution of traditional marriage.
“Nothing has changed with the governor’s philosophy here,” he said.
Besides confirming Perry’s support of a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman, Miner pointed to the governor’s state record. Perry supported the Texas Defense of Marriage Act and a state constitutional amendment defining traditional marriage, Miner noted.”

...and which federal law would that be?
I agree with Perry.. it’s a state issue not a federal issue and who gives a rat’s azz what NY does?
I’ll never visit NY again and eventually their liberal progressive ideas will be their downfall just like it is in California etc.
This is in context of his view of the 10th amendment.
It isn’t a personal philosophy of religious life or even of secular life. It says...as a state, NY has the right...as a state, TX has the right...they are poles apart...that’s the point.
According to Perry’s view of the 10th amendment, the states leave each other alone and the feds leave the states alone - unless the feds are specifically granted the power by the Constitution.
Your comment that Perry lovers need to see something about Perry that they haven’t seen, through this lens, has nothing at all to do with what this story is about.
Not a Perry lover, but certainly not a Perry hater, either.
I can support the following: Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Herman Cain, Rick Perry.
I stand against anyone who claims to be “on our side” but who at the same time is trying to hurt or destroy any of these.
Many of us in NY do care. That is why this unnatural law is being clallenged in the courts. We still feel the voters would never have approved this law. That is why sneaky Cuomo II did not put it to a vote of the people. It will not be long before we send Cuomo II walking.
The key to solving most of our problems lies with federalism. I certainly do not agree with NY’s definition of marriage, but I am also not willing not to make same sex marriage prohibition a uniformed federal law. That being said, traditional marriage states should be allowed to not recognize same the sex marriages contracted in other states. This approach may require some changes in federal law or even the Constitution.
It called The United States Constitution.
Article IV
Section 1.
Full Faith and Credit shall be fiven in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State. And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof.
I’m not sure it’s that simple. Perry is not stupid. It must be more complicated than you put it. Anyway, ask a legal scholar or ask Rick Perry’s office, to get perspective on that. I haven’t studied it yet, but I will.
Just like my concealed carry license is?
I disagree.. what’s the federal law?
Unfortunately it is that simple. A marriage in 1 state is a marriage in all states.
I would have prefered Perry to defend 3,000 years of Western civilization, but that's just me. Personally I like leaders that lead, not leaders that just shrug and say not my problem.
I’m sure many NYer’s do care but remember the courts are liberal as well and as proven in California, the will of the people is irrelevant and the courts will overturn even what the majority vote for.
I wish you luck..
