To associate Breivik’s actions with Tea Party values, conservatism, or pro-American or pro-Western values is completely dishonest. If anything, his views are reminiscent of past European dictators. Like Hitler, he favors nationalism. Like Mussolini, who advanced fascism, he favors a totalitarian state.

Pawlik tucks his view of Breivik (that he’s a racial purist) inside a longer screed about Islam and Muslims that mixes some keen insights with some muddled wishes. As long as a person merely calls himself Muslim, he may have little idea what the Koran is actually asking of him, but it doesn’t seem to take a lot to push him over the edge into devotion. People hunger for God, and even if a cruel God is the only God that seems to be at hand, they will swallow.
