(vanity)Should House vote to Recess until Senate passes a bill?
vanity | July 25, 2011 | Daisy Mae for the Usa

Posted on 07/25/2011 8:48:42 AM PDT by daisy mae for the usa

I just called my congressman to ask why they need to be there. They passed two bills that have been sent to the Senate. CCB was tabled. Senate has passed nothing. Can't the House vote to Recess on the basis that without a spending bill, on which the entire government runs, there is no need to conduct further business? They can make reconvening contingent upon the passing of a bill in the Senate. Can't this be done? Flex some muscle, Congress!!!!! Don't let yourselves be made irrelevant. FR comments or opinions on this idea?

Not sure this would be smart.

Under all circumstances, the media will try to blame any trouble on the Republicans. We need to make that very difficult to do.

The House has passed things, and the Senate has blocked things. Obama has offered nothing.
So far, I think we are in a good posiition to say "This is not our fault, we did everything we could."

But if we declare a recess and go home, I think the media will spin that one with glee.

Now there is a new concept! A part time federal legislative government!

Hell yes the US House should go on vacation! Stop doing this Country more harm by renewing their credit cards!

I’d think it better for the house to not recess until January 2012 so BHO cannot make any recess appointments.

No. The story must be the Presiden’t unwillingness to compromise and his willingness to default thanks to an insistence on raising taxes during “the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression” and his insistence that any increase go beyond November 2012. This would turn the whole story into how the Republicans left town.

Just stay there and keep passing common sense solutions and submitting them to the Senate. Let Reid keep tabling things so they don’t come up for a vote.. The Democrats own this mess, let stinky Reid keep the stench before the public.

Boehner, Cantor and the GOP leadership team have thus far not only out-foxed the scheming liars (Obama, Reid, Schumer, MSM), but they are winning the pr war thus far, as well.

They know what they are doing. They have been prepping for this with their Senate counterparts for months.

Keep sending the Senate bills until their doors are blocked with paper.

Wouldn’t work anyway. The Senate could prevent them. And the President could call them back into session.

It hasn’t gotten any traction but my congressman has been pushing for rules that allow only 10 to 15 legislative days per month.

He says the people deserve far more face time with their congressmen than they’re getting and he misses his grandkids. Those sound like good honest reasons to me.

The House passed a debt limit bill. Their work is done.

I’m not sure but I think Obama could then issue recess appointments while they’re out.

Hell yeah! Stay out of session until 2013 and leave us Americans alone. That way, the fool living in our White House wouldn’t be able to do any more damage to us than he and they have. Just leave us alone, dammit!

A part time federal legislative government!

Congress should meet for 90 days a year. Less time to pass the crap they tout as legislation.

If the press reports are to be believed, Obama and Biden are having to cancel fund raising events because of the impasse. If anything will end this stalemate, it will be the pressure to raise funds. Getting re-elected is job one.

I see your point. But Beohner is making the Freshman congressman irrelevant. In fact, all of congress is irrelevant if he and Harry are doing all the dealing with the Pres. So what is the point in being there? Shouldn’t they (Freshman) do someone to make it clear they want to do their job, but they are being pushed out? The message in the end will be the Pres. “had” to use the 14th “because the republicans would not budge.” Recess would say to America, we are forcing Senate to get in the game and do their job. The President must be forced to Sign or Veto. Hold their feet to the fire.

Yes. I like your idea, too. Pass a bill a day! Flood congress with spending bills. Make them table them all. Keep a running count going in MSM. That would work, too. Why aren’t they doing this stuff?
