I’ll say “never.” I’ll never vote for another Bush.
The idea behind the licenses is that it is easier to apprehend someone who has committed a vehicular (or other) crime if they have a license that provides data about their residence, etc. I’m not sure this necessarily works, but that’s the idea behind it.
The AZ law was ok in theory, but it put the pressure back on the police, who were responsible for checking virtually at random but then couldn’t do anything with people they found to be violating the law, since then this becomes a Federal thing and the Feds were not cooperating.
No more Bushes says it well(I’ll second that); but, I’d almost guarantee you that, if Rick Perry looks strong for the nomination, Jeb will jump in to try to keep it away from Perry. The Bushes don’t like Perry, he’s not a member of their elite group and they are similar in that respect to the Kennedys.
I understand the supposed rationales for such positions, but they, like your posts, all lean toward the dismal Bush records on illegal immigration. No thanks!
The only thing I agree with Jesse Jackson on, “Stay Outta Da Bushes.”
I thought Bush actually had a good plan - it needed tweaking, of course, but it involved penalties, a plan for orderly legalization or expulsion for people already here, and a reasonable plan for the future that included easily available short-term visas for people from certain countries that had people that we needed, ranging from laborers to medical personnel, and required the learning of English. As for his record on illegal immigration, what was he supposed to do? How can you enforce a system that is so badly broken?
Failure to do anything has simply resulted in the worsening of the situation. And it’s not just Latin Americans, although those are the ones anybody here seems to care about: New York is full of illegal Russians, Albanians, Chinese, Middle Easterners and Africans, and probably this can be said of any major city. The Russians seem to live entirely from crime, btw.
