Oh, they would. I understand what you mean, but even if it was a well-known local poli, they’d make sure to shout it from the rooftops that it’s a Republican - in case you didn’t already know.

I believe that Congress was kind of like that for many, many years from the beginning of the Republic, and some state legislatures are still considered as part-time jobs (in some states, legislative sessions end at a specific date every year, or even every other year (Texas)).
This is an interesting issue, and there are both pros and cons to that system.
Pavel Goberman is a fake Republican. I think he’s really a Green or something.
I didn’t hear about it at the time but apparently Oregon remapped already and made this district a smidge more Republican.
With Frank you got to keep the teenage sons away.
The compromise plan for state legislative districts was already signed into law, but I think that the congressional plan, while already agreed to by legislators, has not yet been adopted formally. But, yes, unless there’s an 11th-hour change, Wu’s OR-01 will be like 2% more Republican than before—it will still lean Democrat, but should be more competitive than before.
Hopefully with the seat open now we can get a decent candidate.
