U.S. Senate Stands with NRA in Strongly Opposing U.N Gun Control Efforts |
Friday, July 22, 2011 |
For nearly 20 years, the NRA has worked tirelessly to oppose any United Nations effort to undermine the constitutional rights of law-abiding American gun owners. The latest attempt by the U.N. and global gun banners to eliminate our Second Amendment freedoms is to include civilian arms in the current Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), which will be finalized next year. In order for any treaty to take effect, however, it must be ratified by two-thirds of the U.S. Senate. To ensure that any ATT that includes civilian arms is dead on arrival in the Senate, the NRA has been working to get as many U.S. Senators as possible to publicly oppose any ATT that includes restrictions on civilian arms. As of this morning, 50 members of the U.S. Senate have signed letters to President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton saying they will oppose any ATT that includes civilian firearms ownership. These strongly worded letters caution the President and Secretary of State to uphold the Constitution of the United States. As Senator Jerry Moran's letter warns, (A)s the treaty process continues, we strongly encourage your administration to uphold our constitutional protections of civilian firearms ownership. These freedoms are non-negotiable, and we will oppose ratification of an Arms Trade Treaty presented to the Senate that in any way restricts the rights of law-abiding U.S. citizens to manufacture, assemble, possess, transfer or purchase firearms, ammunition and related items. Thanking the NRA for our long-standing work on this issue, Senator Moran remarked, "I appreciate the NRA's partnership on this important effort to defend the rights of American gun owners. I want to thank them for their active support in sending a strong message to the Obama Administration that our firearm freedoms are not negotiable." As we have for nearly two decades, the NRA will continue to fight against any U.N. treaty that undermines the constitutional rights of American gun owners. These letters send a clear message to the international bureaucrats who want to eliminate our fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms. Clearly, a U.N. ATT that includes civilian arms within its scope is not supported by the American people or their elected U.S. Senators. We are grateful to Senator Moran, Senator Jon Tester, and all members of the Senate who have chosen to stand on the side of America's 80 million gun owners in opposition to those who want to eliminate our freedoms. And thank you as well to those NRA members who contacted their Senators and encouraged them to support this critical effort.

Be ever vigilant! Who didn't sign?
Of course, it’s a liberal Democrat Senate with a long history of lying and in the back pocket of the gun control groups so take it for what it’s worth.....
Only 50...
What a shame.
Once again, our constitution cannot be lawfully amended by treaty!
The U.N. can mandate anything, it just cannot have any ability to enforce their agenda within the U.S. borders.
“Blue helmets make great targets”
I would start with Kerry, Brown, Schumer, Gillibrand, Menendez, Lautenberg.
And while they’re at it, this would be a good time to encourage the UN to set up shop somewhere else - like a different hemisphere.
Why is it that we never hear this type of language from the Senate when the Lefties bring up a new round of infringements on US citizens' right to keep and bear arms?
NRA ping
Well yes they would EXCEPT, It won't be blue helmets enforcing UN gun control laws it will be your local friendly county and city JBTs who will be enthusiastically going after gun owners and killing (if they can) any who resist.
And that is why the motherland department of internal security is showing videos of white middle class terrorists. Anyone who doesn't turn in their guns will be by the government's definition, a terrorist. I'm sure 0 and his advisors have a final solution for the gun owner problem waiting in the wings. I also suspect that a few police heroes who decide to "follow orders" on gun confiscation won't be going home to their families and high fiving with their buddies over some patriot's corpse.
I knew this would happen. Obama has planned to use the UN back door way to completely demolish the Constitution in every respect. This evil evil man and those who surround him don’t plan to EVER leave the White House. He plans to be self appointed King forever. One Huge A— Mistake America!! CO
Bump.

Some one here who is very good with the search function could probably locate several threads on the “Study” conducted at Monterey a few years back.
The “Study” asked U.S. troops if they would fire on American citizens to enforce gun control laws.
An alarmingly high percentage stated that they would do so.
As I recall this was during the Klinton regimes term in power.
So, nothing new under the sun, same old same old, only the names change, the socialist agenda does not!
I remember it.
The survey does exist and was passed out to a few hundred Marines in 29 Palms, California, in 1995, but not by the Pentagon. According to an article in NEW AMERICAN magazine in October of 1995 by John F. McManus, the survey was part of an academic project on the part of a Navy Lieutenant Commander Ernest Guy Cunningham who was earning his Masters Degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. The survey alarmed some of the Marines and copies soon started being circulated among gun rights supporters. Lt. Cmdr. Cunningham told McManus that he was a member of the National Rifle Association himself and didn't agree with the tone of the questions. He said the survey was intended to confirm and then pass on to higher authorities his fears about "the lack of knowledge among the soldiers about the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and their heritage as Americans."I also remember that about 1/3 did not answer the question.
It was at 29 Palms in the Klintoon years.
Lt. Cmdr. Guy Cunningham thought it up.
