Two Richmond officers who resigned in the midst of a police Explorer scandal have been indicted on allegations they intimidated two young Explorers they illegally armed and put to work for their private security firm.
A federal grand jury in Oakland on Thursday indicted 31-year-old Danny Harris and 34-year-old Ray Thomas on conspiracy counts for allegedly trying to prevent the Explorers from telling authorities that Harris illegally bought them guns and sent them into crime-plagued neighborhoods.
Federal law prohibits people under 21 from buying or owning guns.

In this case, cops bought guns for kids, then demanded they return them. One kid refused, so they tried using the prostitutes to set him up carrying the gun in his car, drunk.
Somebody, (probably one of the girls) tipped him, so it didn't work, and the kid's info tripped up a large part of the crooked cop/lawyer ring. Several departments are involved.
I hope these chumps go to jail.
Explorers are given the opportunity to participate in Law Enforcement and the Justice System so they can learn important lessons.
This one that will go down in their memories as “Not Good”.
Um, what was their private security firm doing patrolling bad neighborhoods???
Not just law enforcement. My daughter was an Explorer as part of her high school EMT class.
Worked.
They believed that they were working for the good guys, and got lead into illegal activity by the very officers they looked to for guidance.
Rules count, and the lesson taught is that it's OK for the "more equal than others" to break the rules, and when push comes to shove, do MUCH worse rule breaking.
A traffic stop in California with a gun would have ruined the kid's life, and being a cop striker, he might not have survived prison.
Life without parole is fine with me.
The article states “fed law prohibits people under 21 from...owning firearms”.
Really? Not.
Liberal disinformation.
Things have sure changed over my lifetime.
I bought my first shotgun from Sears Roebuck catalog (A J.C. Higgins pump) when I was 14, it came in the mail.
Bad business (for profit). These guys were too young and inexperienced to do a proper job safely for all concerned.
The straw purchases were illegal.
This is simply untrue. Federal law prohibits people under the age of 21 from buying handguns (not rifles or shotguns) from a federally licensed dealer. People under the age of 21 can legally possess handguns, but minors have restrictions on using them.
Protecting their drug ring, of course.
Richt you are, and it’s right here in good old Danville, with one of our sheriff’s deputies contractor cops indicted for illegal drug and gun stuff along with a “brother officer” from next door San Ramon. These guys were members of the Central Contra Costa County Drug Strike Force yet! Evidently they were selling confiscated drugs and dealing with illegal assault weapons to boot. Look for the union label!
I was guessing in post #12, but looks like it was a good guess.
I was a Sheriff Explorer for 4 years and I never saw such outrageous behavior. Not even a single incident I would question.
I was at all times mentored. The men and women took their responsibility toward us as an honor and acted accordingly.
Even prisoners I escorted were full of advice and for those moments I felt they were better men.
When I was 13, my father introduced me to the local NRA life member/ firearms instructor/ kitchen table FFL dealer.
I had four evenings of instruction and one full Saturday written and physical test.
That summer, dad informed me that I would take his test that summer on our family camping trip. I got out all the notes I had made and re read them.
I passed a very thorough test, and as soon as we returned home, dad took me back to his friend and bought me my first shotgun. He said I could have anything I wanted, as long as it was a single shot model.
He said he had made me safe, now he was gonna make me a shooter.
We, as a society, are deteriorating, and have a lack of accountability and responsibility.
Young people are managed to be remarkably ignorant and indoctrinated.
The only thing that I can see for sure is that this has happened before, and often enough to identify leftist liberal values as infecting a society before a collapse.
Human behavior really doesn't change much.
I don’t believe that anymore than I believe we are more racist than ever before.
With so many venues for reporting news 24x7, papers, alternative papers, Internet, etc. many acts have become more visible and it feels more common.
Same as with Priests in the Catholic Church. I don’t have an axe to grind with the original church and very much respect them and their traditions.
However, what had been suppressed for so many years was made visible and brought to the forefront and finally dealt with as best as possible (I guess. I have my own punishment for them but I am not God).
The Church has gone through a reformation of sorts and is on a path of No Tolerance. To be sure they have a long way to go.
Same as abhorrent cops.
They have been around forever and I believe there were more criminals in LEO in the past than now.
The only area where I see society deteriorating is in the normalization and legislation of thought and behavior regarding homesexuality.
Now, I don’t care if one is gay but, they are a separate and distinct group of people who through their decision in our face and flaunt their lifestyle.
I don’t care for TMI or PDA in Heterosexuals and I appreciate even less in Gays. They only do it for attention anyway.
You wanna be gay? Fine just don’t become some protected group and try to change society and the definition of words.
And they are certainly welcome in my home anytime as friends (not my gay friend. I don’t pull that on my Mexican, Black, Polish, German, English friends. So let’s not come together with any other agenda than our stated purpose. =)
