Shock Study: U.S. Flag Only Boosts GOP
US News ^ | July 20, 2011 | Paul Bedard

Just a brief exposure to an image of the American flag shifts voters, even Democrats, to Republican beliefs, attitudes and voting behavior even though most don't believe it will impact their politics, according to a new two-year study just published in the scholarly Psychological Science.

What's more, according to three authors from the University Chicago, Cornell University and Hebrew University, the impact had staying power.

"A single exposure to an American flag resulted in a significant increase in participants' Republican voting intentions, voting behavior, political beliefs, and implicit and explicit attitudes, with some effects lasting 8 months," the study found. "These results constitute the first evidence that nonconscious priming effects from exposure to a national flag can bias the citizenry toward one political party and can have considerable durability."

Theirs is the first study to look at the political impact on Americans who have seen an American flag, and it seems to back up another recent Harvard University professor's study that found that kids who attended a July 4th parade ended up leaning Republican when they grew up.

It's also sure to prompt GOP presidential candidates to add more U.S. flags at their events and speeches.

For this study, the scholars asked mostly Democratic-leaning voters to join in the survey conducted just before the 2008 election of President Obama over Sen. John McCain. All were given a survey to fill out. Half of those surveys included a small picture of an American flag in the top left corner.

Some 90 percent said that they believed their voting behavior wouldn't be influenced by the presence of a flag.

But after asking how the participants voted, the study concluded:

"In contrast to the beliefs of the participants in the pilot study, the results from the experiments reported here show that exposure to the American flag introduces a bias toward the Republican Party over the Democratic Party. In one experiment, we tested whether subtle exposure to the American flag shifted people's beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors toward the Republican end of the political continuum. We found that a single exposure to a small American flag during deliberation about voting intentions prior to a general election led to significant and robust changes in participants' voting intentions, voting behavior, and political attitudes, all in the politically conservative direction."

And apparently politics didn't have anything to do with how those shown the flag changed their voting.

"It is important to note that political ideology and party affiliation did not moderate these effects. That is, both liberal and conservative participants were influenced by the flag prime, and in the same (conservative) direction," said the study.

Eight months after the election eve survey, the group was then asked about Obama's performance and remarkably those in the group shown the American flag on the initial survey "felt less positively about Obama's job performance."

To prove the shocking results, the scholars in the spring of 2010 conducted another test, this time to see if exposure to an American flag produces a bias toward Republicanism, rather than the party that controls the White House. For this, they showed some pictures of buildings that included a flag, and others photos with the flag digitally erased.

That result: "Subtle exposure to the American flag significantly shifted both Democratic and Republican participants' beliefs, attitudes, and voting behavior toward Republicanism."

Ya hear that? We are all just mindless lab rats. The academics tell us that our country’s flag has magical powers over us.

“Eight months after the election eve survey, the group was then asked about Obama’s performance and remarkably those in the group shown the American flag on the initial survey “felt less positively about Obama’s job performance.”

You don’t suppose the group’s opinion might have had something to do with the events of those eight months?

Nah...

I’ve known a number of people that have said they didn’t have their mind made up even as they entered the voting both. Only when faced with a decision did they actually make one.

So when you go to vote, wear a shirt with a big American flag on both the front and the back.

I wonder how many undecides this would actually shift to the GOP?

Hmmm.
Want to bet there is a sudden “grass-roots” movement to remove or replace the US flag at various functions?

The flags at polling places will immediately have to be replaced by UN flags and rainbow flags.

Fascinating information. Today, Rush Limbaugh half-seriously predicted that soon, Democrats will demand that flags be banned from polling places, then, that no political ads can have a flag in them and, eventually, the American flag will be banned outright. As crazy as it seems, I believe that the first two could happen - but I pray it never does.

I’m going to wave the American flag on election day to convince voters to choose America and not the ObamaNation.

I hope they didn't get in trouble with AP for using their photo library.

Shock Study: Mexican Flag Only Boosts Democrats
US News ^ | July 20, 2011 | Paulo Bitetaco

Just a brief exposure to an image of the Mexican flag shifts illegal alien voters to Democratic Party beliefs, attitudes and voting behavior even though most don’t believe it will impact their politics, according to a new two-year study just published in the scholarly Berzerklanios Para de Psychologia de Sciencias Putanos Illeganos Muchachos de la Norte de California.

What’s more, according to three authors from the University of Chihuahua, Guadalajara Instituta de la Criminalos Mexicanos, Michoacan Mango University and San francisco Rainbow University, the impact had staying power.

“A single exposure to a Mexican flag resulted in a significant increase in illegal participants’ Democratic party line voting intentions, voting behavior, political beliefs, and implicit and explicit attitudes, with some effects lasting 57 months,” the study found. “These results constitute the first evidence that nonconscious priming effects from exposure to a Mexican flag can bias the illegal aliens toward one political party and can have considerable durability.”

Theirs is the first study to look at the political impact on illegal aliens who have seen a Mexican flag, and it seems to back up another recent Michoacan Mango University professoro’s study that found that kids of illegal aliens, especially those with big mangos, who attended a Cinco de Mayo parade in San Francisco ended up leaning Democratic Party when they grew up and voted illegally in California.

It’s also sure to prompt Democratic presidential candidates to add more Mexican flags at their events and speeches.

For this study, the Mexican scholars asked mostly illlegal alien Democratic-leaning and illegal voters to join in the survey conducted just before the 2008 election of President Obummer over Sen. John McCain. All were given a survey to fill out. Half of those surveys included a small picture of a Mexican flag in the top left corner and a photo of Obummer bowing down in the lower Leftist corner.

Some 90 percent said that they believed their voting behavior wouldn’t be influenced by the presence of a Mexican flag since they always vote Democratic illegally anyway.

But after asking how the illegal participants voted, the study concluded:

“In contrast to the beliefs of the illegal alien participants in the pilot study, the results from the experiments reported here show that exposure to the Mexican flag introduces a bias toward the Democratic Party over the Republican Party. In one experiment, we tested whether subtle exposure to the Mexican flag shifted illegal aliens` beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors toward the Democratic end of the political continuum. We found that a single exposure to a small Mexican flag during deliberation about illegal voting intentions prior to a general election led to significant and robust changes in participants’ voting intentions, voting behavior, and political attitudes, all in the politically subversive direction.”

And apparently Mexican politics didn’t have anything to do with how those shown the Mexican flag changed their voting, because their politicians in Mexico City D.F. want them to annex California.

“It is important to note that political ideology and party affiliation did not moderate these effects. That is, both Mexican illegals and illegal Guatemalan participants were influenced by the Mexican flag and in the same subversive direction,” said the study.

Eight months after the election eve survey, the group was then asked about Obummer`s performance and remarkably those in the group shown the Mexican flag on the initial survey “felt more positively about Obummer`s job performance.”

To prove the shocking results, the scholars in the spring of 2010 conducted another test, this time to see if exposure to a Mexican flag produces a bias toward Democratic voter fraud, rather than the party that controls the White House. For this, they showed some pictures of White House buildings that included a Mexican flag, and others photos with the Mexican flag digitally magnified to appear bigger than a chihuahua.

That result: “Subtle exposure to the Mexican flag significantly shifted both illegal Mexicans and Guatemalans participants’ beliefs, attitudes, and voting behavior toward annexing California.”

Whew! Good news, everyone!

For three days prior to an election, put up American flags all over the place. This sounds like an easy and inexpensive way to get Republicans and conservatives elected. Maybe.

And it sure doesn’t hurt to try (*).

(*) Except in parts of Chicago, and some other blue enclaves, where display of the American flag is prohibited by local brutes.
