They've identified the footprints as belonging to Lucy. I'm not sure how. Probably one of those "we date the rocks by the fossils and we date the fossils by the rocks" things.

I didn't mean to imply that Lucy "herself" made the prints. That would be silly.
I merely note that for that species, we have no fossils of the feet. Yet we have identified footprints made by the species. It's guesswork, not science.
