Water is wet. The sky is blue. The United States is insolvent. None of these will change anytime soon.
Yet as The Great Debt Ceiling Debate continues, it is fascinating to watch both sides spin their rhetoric. President Obama, saying the U.S. must raise its debt limit or the government will default, has apparently forgotten that he and his party have spent incomprehensible amounts of money to put us at that level.
Many on the right seem content to play the blame game, arguing that Obama and the Democrats are solely responsible, conveniently forgetting that George W. Bush (who inherited a budget surplus) and his Republican Congress more than doubled the national debt during their watch...

Unfortunately, beginning with at least the Baby Boomers, the thirst for largeness expressed itself in terms of the consumption rather than the production of largess. What was once the strength of American society has become cancerous and we must destroy this cancer.
But we do so at the risk of destroying ourselves... or at the very least of changing to the point of unrecognizability.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus...
The liberals are already attacking it on Am Radio - Time to take control of the debates

Crap.
Stop blaming the two-thirds of the population that’s sane.
We have been fighting this stuff since FDR, for God’s sake!
We have known SSI was insolvent since LBJ raided it back in the 60’s.
Term Limits??—Lefties on the courts killed the one thing that would have helped.
Barry’s boys have just speeded things up—by a factor of TEN (or more).
President Obama walked jauntily to the White House briefing room to embrace it as broadly consistent with what weve been working on here in the White House.

Don't get your hopes up to high on that last part. It'll never happen.

Two-thirds?
Not what I've seen in my generation (Y). Not what my parents saw in theirs (Baby Boomers). Even Republican-voting financial "experts" have assured me that "it pays to have debt!" Of course they were referring to the practice of leveraging, which is itself highly risky.
It's the PROMISES that are red meat for them. Never mind that even if they do get the opportunity they'll squander it.
conveniently forgetting that George W. Bush (who inherited a budget surplus)
Bush was bad on the budget, but the surplus is a blatant lie.
The only hope now is that the House stands up and simply refuses. Then Obama will have to do it himself. He will. Then we can attack. The House still has 18 months. This road will lead to the Obama 2nd term with the RATS in charge of all 3 branches. We tried. Looks like it was too late.
There might be another way of looking at Bush 43 spending. Bring back Bush. http://media.townhall.com/townhall/Medved/Medved_Show/chartlarge.gif
Are you saying the Republicans in congress are refusing to engage in debate? You cannot possibly be serious. This goes beyond all common reason and logic.
Isn't this exactly what McConnell's plan will do?
No. McConnells plan will allow obama to come out smelling like a Rose. If the House stands Obama will have to try and use the 14th amendment excuse to spend anyway.
I blame ABC. None of their reporters can feel safe in the future.
Get ready for Rove to trot out Jeb Bush as the new improved GOP candidate.
You need to get your head screwed on correctly grandma... you are not thinking straight this morning... this is your second attack on me today... and You have the gall to defend romney on FR (in another thread attacking me this morning)... sad day.

Amen!
