Eight things you ought to know before you start writing stories about Rick Perry. Youre welcome.
(Excerpt) Read more at texasmonthly.com ...
Thx.
BTW: My Dad (who is a staunch Conservative, ironically) sent me the subscription. Thought it would look pretty on the coffee table.;)
Must of caught him/her before 13th adult beverage.
Last words before passin out...;)
Carl A. Parker: Why Perry Won't Run for President
Jim Hightower: Perry Is Peddling Texas Snake Oil
I can hardly wait for him to announce so the real vitriol will start to flow.
Let the comparisons begin.
Perry vs Barry 2012
Some how fitting, as Obama flew into Austin and refused to address Perry's hand-delivered letter about security on the 1250 mile Texas-Mexico border.
Gov. Rick Perry, with state Sen. Kirk Watson, left, greets the president as he arrives in Austin. Perry brought a four-page letter on border security.
I like the restaurant ads...And home decor ideas...But that is as far as I go...
But like I said the other day, if Perry gets the WH...What or whom is going to take the lead in Texas???
Dewhurst is going to D.C. possibly as a Senator...Replacing KBH...
Strauss may have bigger ambitions...(I hope the hell not!!!)
Dan “Do YOU know who I am???” Patrick does have ambitions on the governor’s residence...(Gag me with a pitchfork!!!)
There are a few State Senators I would take a look at for the top job in Texas...I have a short list of:
Wentworth, Eltife...
A couple of State Reps might want to step up...
Wayne Christian, Brian Hughes, Joe Driver...
Really??? I could swear (not like “Fightthepower!”) that it was slightly the other way around...
Besides, Palin is still a lot easier on the eyes...
WOSG, can I at least hold on to that idea...Just for a little while longer??? Please??? ;-)
That would be “pea-pickin’ little” heart...
The question is...
Did he really attend the event???
The list is a lot of smoke and mirrors to me...
I was there and didn’t see him, or a few of the others mentioned on the list...;-)
Hang on a second...You only have a flag and a FReeper name, indicating your origin...;-)
But you are right...They don’t have squat on their profile...
The problem with your theory is that there aren’t enough “alert voters” for Palin to win unfortunately - that’s how we got Obama as the president.
Wrong. It was a massive influx of “alert voters” that gave us the November 2010 shellacking. Obama’s only real hope is to cause massive disillusionment with Republicans, douse the Tea Party energy, and stuff the ballot box any way he can. But all that will fail. We are awake now, and we will not rest until the intruder has been ejected from our house. Here’s the real problem: Any GOP candidate can beat Obama, but only one GOP candidate has a history which suggests she will not only be a wise president, but will also be aggressive and successful in rooting out the insurgency that has a stranglehold on our executive branch. There is no point to winning in 2012 with anyone less than a proven reformer. Anything short of that is just a symbolic delay of game.
From the article: "The swing state that had voted for Democrats in four of the previous five presidential elections turned into a deep red one that has chosen Republicans for president eight straight times and does not have a single Democrat[ic] statewide elected official."
Senator Phil Gramm was also a democrat who switched to the Republican party and proceeded to win reelection more than once. A lot of Texans were dims long ago.
Has Perry repudiated Gore since?
Yes, there is a video clip posted on many Perry threads that I think is titled "Al Gore has gone to hell".
You are correct, Palin was the perfect choice for McCain;

Taking a trip is always a nice break.
So when Perry talks to some people and its not made 100% public, its “secret”. So he does what every single other politician and person does.
“secret organization, which no one knows the agenda of?” If you dont know, why are you making a nefarious assumption? If their agenda was ‘more trade between Texas and Turkey’, is that a problem?
You are like the liberals who try to make a big deal out of the Koch brothers.
“Tell me how is that good for America?” - Freedom of association is a good thing, yes. Politicians that reach out to many organizations and groups to spread their message is good. In Perry’s case, his consistent message is that pro-business Texas policy is good for Texas and good for business. You dont need to be in a secret society to know the message he gives to these groups - it is very consistent.
” Is that the kind of candidate you want to entrust our Country, at it’s most desperate moment, to? “
Yeah, a politician who talks to people and listens to people ... oooh, the horror!
“I have a big problem with Perry’s personal decision to go and do that?”
You have a problem with Perry because he gave a speech to a group you fear, a group you claim you dont know who they are or what they do. OK, so based on total ignorance, you will be fearful and assume the total absolute worst, in the absense of any real facts. Yeah, that’s nuts. That is paranoid delusions.
It’s not what is said in secret that makes politicians dangerous, it is what they say in PUBLIC.
“Okay, Im no huge Perry guy, but compare to Obama..............
Is that our standard now? Really?”
Right. we should be comparing to other candidates on the Republican side. After all, this is a nomination first.
And on that scale, compared to the other REPUBLICAN candidates, Perry has a good combination of conservative credentials and electability. He’s won every race he’s been in. Perry can and will beat Obama.
Perry is not the most conservative (eg Bachmann) or the most electable (Romney), but he is the most conservative of the ‘electable’ candidates and most electable of the the conservative candidates. This is a role Pawlenty could have played, but has flopped. Perry would do much better.
IMHO, If Perry gets in, its a Bachmann/Perry/Romney race, and Perry is the right consensus consevative candidate in that race. Perry’s 10 years as Governor is more political executive experience than anyone else in the race.
Perry/Rubio would make a good combo.
“Dewhurst is going to D.C. possibly as a Senator...Replacing KBH...”
Dewhurst .... oh gawd .... he has the inside chance. the GOOD NEWS if Perry runs for President, is Dewhurst stays put and tries to become Gov, then Ted Cruz, a real conservative, becomes US Senator.
Abbott wants to move up. I’d like him to be Gov.
Jerry Patterson would be a great Gov as well.
“Dan Do YOU know who I am??? Patrick does have ambitions on the governors residence...(Gag me with a pitchfork!!!)”
He is one of the few REAL conservatives in the Senate. He’d make a good Lt Gov.
Staples wants to be Lt Gov too.
Lots of jockeying going on. We have a very good set of statewide officials, Abbott, Patterson, Combs, are all sharp.
“Strauss may have bigger ambitions...(I hope the hell not!!!)”
Great, we can extract him from Speaker and kill him off in a primary.
“Wentworth” - a future UT regent or chancellor ... he hopes.
A pro-abort RINO like him has no future as a Republican contender in a contested primary.
“A couple of State Reps might want to step up...”
Phil King? Ken Paxton wanted to become state senator.
“Senator Phil Gramm was also a democrat who switched to the Republican party and proceeded to win reelection more than once.”
Yup and Phil Gramm was and is more consevative than most of the current Republicans in the US Senate. A great Senator.
