CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — In spite of his thundering speeches against big government, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has a troubled relationship with the tea party, a rift increasingly obvious as he gets closer to a presidential bid.

Tea party groups from New Hampshire to Texas are collaborating to criticize Perry's record on immigration, public health and spending and his former affiliation with the Democratic Party.

You're probably still steamed from the drubbing Deb Medina took.

Bwahahaha! Dr. Pepper through the nostrils on that one.

From the article...

“It's real easy to walk into church on Sunday morning and sing from the hymnal. I saw a guy that talked like a tea party candidate but didn't govern like one,” said Debra Medina, a Texas tea party activist who challenged Perry in the 2010 Republican gubernatorial primary.

Medina was the Truther Party (Ron Paul) candidate. The “Tea Party” in the article are Ron Paul supporters who claim he is the original Tea Party candidate.

“truth”freedom is a Paul supporter whose stated purpose is destroying Perry before he enters the race.

...Perry is THE WORST, but it will take some effort to stomp him to dust. The msm likes him, and has been pushing him. I’d say start attacking him, full blast, right now, so he doesn’t get in.

The poster, “truth”freedom's political fantasy...

A scenario I like has Paul in, Palin in, and the establishment candidate. And Ron Paul just attacks the establishment candidate. This would result in a Palin vs Paul showdown in the Republican primary which most people would think, based on reason, would result in a Palin win. But the many debates are focused on attacking Obama.
And it’s all win. Then a Palin/Paul ticket.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2749166/posts?page=180#180

Read the entire article...the article makes it clear it's the other candidates that are behind the smear campaign.

"truth"freedom is nothing but an anti-Perry propagandist.

It’s going to come down to those who want Obama actually out of office, and those who may elect to do a Thelma and Lousise over the proverbial cliff supporting a candidate who will not run and can not win a general election if he/she did declare.

No, not this election.

The days of the base accepting the "Lessor of two Evils" which is really what you are promoting, just repacking it, are over now that the Tea Party is involved.

Those days are gone, finished, finis!

Gee, hit pieces on Palin, Bachmann, and Perry in the LSM today.

No hit pieces on MittCare Romney, though.

Gee, I wonder whom the LSM wants to be “our” GOP candidate?

” You put those two on the ticket and you will drive the conservative base away in droves. That ticket doesn’t have a chance in Hell of winning the General election. “ <<<<

That would be those conservatives who choose to keep Obama.
If Obama loses his base and Republicans lose the Paul&Palinbots, we’re still going to be even. But the Independents have the voice and we’re in, with Obama placed properly back in Honolulu.

The fact that Perry thought it appropriate to give a speech for a racist “reconquista” group like La Raza makes me ill, and pushes him into the “will not vote for” column for me.

Wow. A Perry/Christie ticket would be very strong. The media would despise them.

Perry is whoever he wants to be and very good at it.

As much as I despise him and how he's tried to sell us down the river, or rather over the river (the Rio Grande to be precise), he is an incredibly smooth politician. He can address a LULAC state convention and rain down all kinds of praise on them, he can go to Mexico and bash the US Congress for not passing a guest worker bill, but then talk about being tough on illegal immigrant. He can talk about being pro-life or pro-2nd Amendment but still support a pro-abortion and pro-gun control candidate for President. He can criticize Romneycare even after he talked about bi-national health insurance for Mexicans and Texans. He can complain that Obama hasn't secured the border just a few years after he said the federal government's plan for a border wall was "idiocy". He can be all things to all people.

He could have given Bill Clinton a run for his money at his peak, the man is slick. McCain got around 33% of the electoral votes, and I have no doubt that Perry could do better.

The name “tea party” is tricky. Because it isn’t a political party.

I’d say the tea party is unified conservatives. Some are definitely independents.

There are a lot of things that Perry has done that could push him into the “will not vote for” column. Different people have different things that push him into that column.

As much as I've agreed with you on certain thigns, I think you're mistaken if you don't think we won't end up with another RINO like Romney or Perry.

I'm just not seeing the influence of the Tea Party like I thought I would by now. Perry should scare the crap out of the Tea Party movement - this is a guy that has blasted Congress over not passing a guest worker program in recent years, and he's got a decade-long record of saying pro-illegal immigrant things.

OK that’s explains a lot. I can understand someone preferring someone better than Perry as he is admittedly a mixed bag. But anyone that wants Ron Paul anywhere near the nuclear football has no credibility.

Agree 100%.

Perry's not my top choice but he is far more conservative than RuPaul.

I will not vote for Rick Perry.

As for Ron Paul. He has said a lot of truths. Look at his statements from the 2008 primary where he talked about deficits, debt and the fed etc... Issues no other candidate would mention. Ron Paul will never be a viable candidate. Even though he can be far out he still deserves more respect than the establishment give him.

Most Perry supporters will point to his 11 years of gubernatorial experience as a plus, but in his case it’s quantity rather than quality. Most of his record is not good. He has huge credibility gaps in nearly every area.

Claims to be RTL & pro RKBA, but backed Giuliani in the 2008 primaries.

Claims to be tough on the border, but his actions and public comments in office say otherwise.

Claims to be fiscally conservative, but after 11 years of Perry in office with overwhelming Republican majorities in the state house, Texas’ finances are in worse shape proportionally than California’s.

Claims to be a job creator, but mostly uses revenue-negative corporate welfare schemes to lure corp offices from California. Another thing draining Texas coffers.

Claims to be small gov’t, but tried to push through one of the biggest landgrab/big gov’t boondoggles in Texas history (TTC) and line his own (and Giuliani’s) pockets along the way.

Perry will say literally anything to get elected, and do literally anything for a buck. He thinks ‘principle’ is the guy that whupped him for chewing gum during Civics class.

I’m pretty sure he’s not what the country needs when we’re looking down both barrels of a fiscal crisis that would probably occur on his watch. Your mileage may vary.

"..Ann Hettinger, Concerned Women for America's state director of Texas, was instrumental in convincing Perry to change his proposal to an opt-in provision. When asked if Perry's original plans for the HPV vaccine would be an issue if he were to run for president, [CEO of Concerned Women for America, Penny] Nance replied, “It would've been an issue IF HE HAD NOT FIXED IT.”

Perry, Social Conservatives and the Road to the Top ….."The party has evolved to where he had the ability to be more open about some of his views," says Susan Weddington, a former chairwoman of the Republican Party of Texas. "I think it's the party that's changed some — this is definitely in his political DNA."

"Rick Perry has continued to stand up. I think that's who the man is," says Cathie Adams, who has been a Texas GOP chairwoman, national committeewoman and head of the Texas Eagle Forum.

She, like others in the Perry fold, believes he's been consistently conservative on issues that matter to social and religious conservatives — most of the time. Like others, she says his support for a mandated vaccine against human papillomavirus was off pitch. HPV, which is sexually transmitted, is the leading cause of cervical cancer; Perry wanted to require the shots for all 12-year-old girls in Texas, unless their parents opted out.

"I worked against HPV," Adams says. "I don't think he was ill-intended on that. He could have listened to more voices."

State Rep. Wayne Christian, R-Center, agrees with that — "where he shot himself in the foot was a couple of sessions ago with that vaccination thing" — but also says Perry's place as the party's standard-bearer is safe.

"I've talked especially with the Tea Party people," he says. "If you want to say on the correct side of them, you need to stick with Perry."……….

June 13, 2011: Texas Gov. Rick Perry blasted pro-abortion President Barack Obama on pro-life issues "Perry said that, under Obama “our federal tax dollars can now be used to fund abortion all over the world. With the stroke of a pen, abortion essentially became a U.S. foreign export......."

"Perry has pleased pro-life advocates in Texas many times with signing pro-life legislation — most recently signing an ultrasound bill allowing women to see them before an abortion and hopefully changing their minds on it. He has been strongly supported by pro-life groups. Perry supported or signed into law the Women’s Right to Know Act and the Prenatal Protection Act in 2003, parental consent law in 2005, and funding for alternatives to abortions in 2007 and 2009."
