The media will treat this as a harmless prank, a joke, etc. Because they hate Murdoch. Just like the Iraqi throwing his shoes at Bush was treated in the media as a harmless joke.
Now....obviously if someone even looked at the Kenyan cross-eyed, the media would be in a full uproar, with lectures about right wing violence, intolerance, etc.

From what little I could gather about this scandal it appears that some news people listened in peoples(and politicians) telephone answering devices. The news people also bribed the English police. This latter fact is quite serious and legitimately made criminal. The former is a mere “Invasion of Privacy,” a civil matter of dubious value. I dealt with the Privacy claim many times over the years and a privacy claim was usually raised by those attempting a fraud or other wrong. Usually the more one postures with a loud voice about ones privacy the greater the wrong being concealed. I’m not a big fan of “privacy” laws.
