Cain: I would attack Iran to protect Israel
Washington Times ^ | 7/18/11 | Ben Birnbaum

Posted on 07/19/2011 5:12:08 AM PDT by Evil Slayer

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Monday he would attack Iran to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons or to respond to aggression against Israel.

Asked if he agreed with former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton’s contention that the “only realistic alternative … is to use force preemptively against Iran’s nuclear weapons program” since diplomacy has failed, Mr. Cain said he did, with one caveat.

“There would be some other pieces of information I would need before I gave that order, but I’m saying that would be Option B,” Mr. Cain said during an interview with editors and reporters at The Washington Times.

“Option A is, ‘Folks, we are not going to allow you to attack Israel‘ … If they call my bluff, they already know — they will know — what Option B is.”

Mr. Cain said that, as commander-in-chief, he would “make it crystal clear [that] if you mess with Israel, you’re messing with the United States of America,” but stressed that his “Cain Doctrine” would not be a “blank check” for Israeli military action.

“There will be a set of conditions and circumstances that I will work with Israel on for them to understand that they cannot abuse that doctrine,” said Mr. Cain, a former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza.

However, if Israel is ever attacked first by Iran, he said he is “not going to sit back and get a vote from the United Nations as to what we ought to do.”

“If they [Iran] start lobbing rockets and stuff over at Israel, then we’re going to shoot back with Israel,” he said.

I really, really like this guy. If he doesn’t get the nomination, would love to see him as Sarah’s VP.

I guess I will not be voting for Cain. We don’t need another neocon wasting money on foreign ventures. Israel is more than capable of protecting itself. Instead of committing troops and taking action, why not just give them the proverbial “green light”.

Agree. But I have some issues with Cain.

When he said..."If they call my bluff, they already know — they will know — what Option B is." He should have said "If they test my resolve....." Sounded too much like Obama with that statement.

Also, “If they [Iran] start lobbing rockets and stuff over at Israel, then we’re going to shoot back with Israel,” This statement is unwise if Iran lobs a nuke. Why wait until Israel is destroyed before attacking Iran?

He needs to make a bolder statement saying "I will order a first strike on Iran if Iran hasn't totally dismantled their nuclear program to the satisfaction of the Israel government by the time I take office."

Cain would make a far better Commander-in-Chief than Obama. Obama is so weak that even the countries in the Middle East don’t like him, probably because they don’t respect his weaknesses.

Who says we need a war? Take a look what a STRONG leader did, all without firing a shot:

“Jan. 20, 1981
Reagan is sworn in as the 40th president of the United States. On the same day, Iran releases the 52 remaining hostages who had been held at the U.S. embassy in Tehran for 444 days.”

A month ago he was clueless on mideast issues, now he'd be the first President to commit to going to war from Israel.

I like him, he'd make a great Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of Energy, Secretary of the Interior, Secretary of Agriculture, and Secretary of Energy.

All at once, I'm not aware of anything preventing that, he appears to have the managerial skills to fold them all into one department. Since he could fold them all into one, which is where they belong.

But we don't need to attack Iran to protect Israel. Cooperating with an Israeli attack, reasonable, though i can't imagine Israel trusting Hussein with that. The aftermath, we'll be drawn in, that's on Iran, and we should be prepared.

If we consider Iran a threat, and there are reasons we should, that's a different issue, but not what he said.

I wish that were so, but it isn't. Israel's air force, man for man, plane for plane, can match even ours. But it's actually quite tiny. And Iran's nuclear facilities are spread out throughout the country, many buried deep underground. Then there's the problem of getting there, which would require at least tacit permission from either Saudi Arabia or Jordan (possible) plus Iraq (less likely).

If Israel had the capability to take out Iran's program, they would have done it already. I'm not saying we should do it for them. But it's quite easy to overestimate Israel's military capabilities.

“I like him, but he’s not ready to be president - VP maybe”

And Obama was, or even is yet???

What are we (or the rest of the West) supposed to do - just stand by wringing our hands while Iran and its homicidal lunatic go nuclear??? The danger to the entire planet if that happens is apparently unimaginable for far too many people. Diplomacy is futile; the old Mutually Assured Destruction that worked with Russia matters not at all to radical Islamists who can’t wait to hasten the return of the Mahdi by killing us and ALL Infidels (non-Muslims)as dictated by Muhammad, creating a worldwide cataclysm of bloodshed.

Our current “leader” has neither the will nor the ability to get other relevant countries to join in meaningful, tough sanctions that could effectively cripple Iran, and the worthless U.N. has only our enemies’ best interests at heart, NOT ours or Israel’s.

So you tell me - are we and everyone else just supposed to accept it, roll over and play dead? That’s unacceptable. Reagan believed in peace through strength - our enemies feared us and our friends respected us. It’s not too late to achieve that again (Ghadaffi gave up his nuke program because he feared Bush).

But currently, we are ruled (yes, ruled) by a traitor the whole world laughs at, and who is actively working toward our demise.

Herman Cain, if you read his resume, is far from being a dummy. He’s a quick study and what he doesn’t know at this moment, he’ll learn in no time. He has a commanding presence and impressive demeanor, only unlike BHO, it’s genuine, as is his love and gratitude for our Republic.

Only time will tell if he can hang in financially, but he’d be a wonderful President.

“We don’t need another neocon wasting money on foreign ventures. Israel is more than capable of protecting itself.”

This sounds like it’s right out of Ron Paul’s crazy, anti-Israel playbook.

Cain is no neocon looking for “ventures”. When you have a radical Islamist lusting for nukes so that he can obliterate the Little Satan, then the Big Satan next, as he’s publicly stated time and time again, you’d best believe he means it - and plan accordingly.

It’s one thing when the old rules of battle and Robert’s Rules of Order applied - never attack first, only defend when attacked - it’s quite another when the present-day reality is that radical “religious” fanatics are planning nuclear attacks with the stated, determined mission to kill ALL Infidels (Israel and us being first).

Paul knows nothing, and appears to have no interest in learning, about fundamental Islam as commanded by Muhammad in the Koran and Hadith. When he constantly says it’s because of our policies or relationship with Israel that’s to blame for their hostility, he’s just plain, dead WRONG.

I like Ron Paul’s views on some other things, but his “foreign policy” is that of a naive idiot and would be as dangerous for the country as that of B. Hussein.

“Why wait until Israel is destroyed before attacking Iran?”

But he doesn’t plan to - that’s why his statements are drawing such flak from the Libs and Paul-bots. Most of the other cowardly countries (Saudi Arabia included) say they want the U.S. to do something, to stop Iran from going nuke because of the worldwide danger they know it would pose. (Yet they’re too afraid to join together with us to impose harsh sanctions which would work.)

It’s what Cain was talking about here - that (given the necessary intel and facts) he’d attack Iran militarily before he’d let that happen.

“Personally, my choice would be someone who isn’t chomping at the bit to get us in a third FOURTH war we can’t afford.”

Where do you get that he’s chomping at the bit? Because he wants America to be strong and respected again, rather than the puss BHO’s reduced us to?

He’s simply talking about taking a thoughtful but firm stand against an imminent, direct threat to both our and Israel’s existence.

It needn’t become a war. This is something very different and precise - but if Iran isn’t stopped soon, well...you ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.
