Civitas Poll: In Potential Matchup, Texas Gov. Rick Perry Ahead of Obama

Press Release-July 18, 2011

Raleigh, N.C. – Texas Republican Gov. Rick Perry leads Barack Obama 45 percent to 42 percent among North Carolina voters in a potential presidential matchup, according to a new poll released by the Civitas Institute.

Forty-five percent of voters said they are leaning towards or would vote for Gov. Rick Perry if the election for President of the United States was being held today and the candidates were Perry, the Republican, and Barack Obama, the Democrat. Forty-two percent said they are leaning towards or would vote for Obama, and 9 percent said they are undecided.

“For the President to be trailing an unannounced candidate in a state he barely won in 2012 has to be concerning for the Obama team,” said Civitas Institute President Francis De Luca. “If Obama is hoping to catch lightning again and win North Carolina, he is going to have to hope for a weaker opponent than Gov. Perry or a big bounce from having the Democratic National Convention here next year.”

Republican (81 percent Perry – 8 percent Obama) and Democratic voter (17 percent Perry – 69 percent Obama) support falls along party lines between the potential candidates. Unaffiliated voters, the fastest growing voter segment in the state, would choose Perry over Obama by a 53 percent to 32 percent margin...

Perry is a RINO; so what’s going to change.

When they removed Davis in CA there was a golden opportunity. No they voted for Arnold because he could win. Things as predicted got worse.

Perry is not a conservative,Palin or Bachmann would be far more reliable. He is a globalist water-boy. He knocked a judge off the Tx. Supreme court via robo-calls because he was “too conservative”. He did not support the Texas DREAM ACT that Perry foisted on Texans.he did not support racial quotas or “hate crimes” designation. If I want that...hell...I could get it from Sheila Jackson-Lee!
He left Texas a sanctuary State. Don’t you think these illegals are the future of the American Union movement. WAKE UP!

You’re operating under a false premise, Perry has his warts, he’s not my first choice, but he is no RINO, unless that term has become meaningless.

Calling him a RINO makes about as much sense as calling him a Whig or a anti-Mason.

I generally get the impression that RINO has become the generic term for “anyone but my favorite candidate”.

Nobody ever really tries to back up the claim.

The way people are around here, I could imagine them calling Reagan a RINO.

I shouldn’t be surprised but it’s startling to me that there are freepers who get upset when Perry takes on Obama over immigration and border security.

And then they get upset if Perry beats Obama in a poll. LOL!

Who are these people, and why are they invading our Free Republic?

Right, Perry has never lost an election and is already leading Obama.

we certainly can’t have that!

i don’t see it that way at all. It’s more a description of a candidate who votes mainly with the other side seen or unseen. Perry has demonstrated on more than one occasion his agenda is not conservative. He has a good bluff to at the very least. All ranting and raving; but never quite delivering.

I think that's part of it.

My trusty Palin/Perry poster usually chills that bunch down a bit! LOL!

If you have to ask that question there is little hope in answering it to your satisfaction! But just for you..a hint: Win the election and send zero and his minions packing...

Perry will stay true to his word, and listen to what the needs of those who elected him are saying or needing.

You can bet he will balance the budget and cut the size of all the added government Obama has created. Perry is also a very tough, dedicated Military man, with the integrity and honor that comes with that tradition.

Gov. Perry ranks right up there with our greatest men who have dedicated their lives to serving their Country. It's simple really, as well as obvious.

Perry being a governor, you have a hard time citing votes.

So how about you give solid examples of where he’s been a RINO? I’ve seen some claims around here to the effect, but they have been some plenty thin soup compared to what he’s done right. His track record as governor is pretty solidly conservative from what I’ve seen.

I’m more than willing to be proved wrong, but from where I’m standing right now, the GOP is lacking a good, solid electable conservative front runner. I believe Perry could fit that bill better than what is currently available in the field.

These people still, cannot seem to grasp what a truly honorable man Perry is. His Military record and service are a testimonial of his character in and of itself.

I am sometimes ashamed to associate myself with these people. It’s veterans and people like yourself that helps me keep my focus and the primary reason I am still here. (The Brotherhood)

If you desire to keep the status quo on 30-40 million illegal aliens present and committing crimes against American citizens, committing document fraud, overunning our schools and criminal justice system on your dime....LOOK NO FURTHER THAN PERRY. He will not ENFORCE THE LAW. This will leave America stuck with 30-40 million new union members and not a chance in hell for limited government long-term. MARK MY WORDS......

Last I checked, the border was a federal matter.
