Michele Bachmann Should Not 'Get a Pass' on Past Membership in Anti-Catholic Church
Catholic Online ^ | 7/17/2011 | Deacon Keith A. Fournier

The news and blogosphere is filled with responses to the July 14, 2011 story by Joshua Green, the Senior Editor of the Atlantic, entitled "Michele Bachmann's Church Says the Pope Is the Antichrist." That is because it raises a serious matter which should not be taken lightly, and one which the candidate must address. First, let me share some personal context. I am what is often called a "revert" to the Catholic Church, someone who returned to the Church of my childhood after a long search for the truth. I love being a Catholic Christian. I hold an undergraduate degree and a master's degree in Catholic theology. I am a dissertation away from obtaining a PhD in Catholic Moral Theology. I am also a member of the Clergy, a Deacon. However, I write this article as a private and very concerned citizen.

As an Evangelical Christian, it never occurred to me to vote for or against him because of his religion.

Unfortunately everyone does not do what you do. Romney is catching some religious flak this year.

You're not going to convince them that Bachmann is not anti-Catholic.

That dumb argument. She works with pro-life Catholic groups and Father Frank Pavone as I have documented.

These sort of arguments are the ones liberals use that have no merit whatsoever.

So . . . this means that Wisconsin Synod Lutherans shouldn't be eligible for the Presidency?

How about Missouri Synod Lutherans? They still officially subscribe to the idea that the Pope is the "antichrist," right? Maybe they should be disqualified from office as well.

While we're at it, I'm sure there are Jews who resent people who believe they're going to hell because they aren't "saved." Why don't we make sure no one who has ever been a member of any church that believes only chr*stians are "saved" ever gets elected to anything?

People are such crybabies today!

“I have no intention of voting for Bachman. She can’t win”

In the unlikely event that Bachmann were nominated she could kiss PA, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan, with their heavy Catholic populations goodbye right off the bat.

Bachmann is too right-wing evangelical for my taste. These people do not believe that Catholics are Christians. They are smug in believing they are the only Christians who have been saved by the Precious Blood of Christ.

Let's pass a Constitutional amendment that says only Universalists can be elected President! [/sarcasm]

This is just some liberal Catholic outriders who have no problem supporting “Catholics” Pelosi, Kerry, Kennedy, Leahy, Mikulski, etc., etc., when they help abort millions of babies and reward law-breaking illegal aliens.

Bachman or Obama - which one would you want sitting in judgment on you if you were a Catholic?

How many Catholics voted for the Muslim we now have in the White House and this scribe doesn’t want bachman. Maybe they like the Mormon better.

Should the Pope “get a pass” on past membership in an anti-Jewish, anti-Protestant Church?

LOL!

You have never been to a Wisconsn synod Lutheran Church, have you and what is preached on a Sunday.. You may want to visit and see what is preached before you start spouting igorance..

“Floored” as in your reasoning can’t rise off of it to realize that Lutherans go by a different church model than Catholics do?

My tomcats can reason better than this.

To one degree or another, isn’t every Protestant church at least a little anti-Catholic? Would they just be Catholics if they weren’t?

Oh, but that was back in the Bad Old Days when people actually believed their religions. We're past that now. In fact, we don't have "religions" any more; we have "faith traditions!" [/sarcasm]

Funny how right wing Catholics can criticize Masonry for being indifferentist and then turn right around and demand that Protestants not be Protestant but rather members of some nameless general "ecumenical" chr*stianity.

” I’m reading through this thread wondering, “Did anybody read the Gospel this morning????????” <<<

Me too. I did, I did!!

Also, I read where this Reading can certainly be applied to “within the Church”. Jesus spoke to the crowd of the seed, but it was to only the disciples that he actually explains the parable. The good seed are the children of God. You know how many are deeply disturbed with the liberties taken in the western Church;the kneelers gone, the once centered Tabernacle lost into corners, down hallways, pablum, etc., and a general state of lapsed piety, dress and behaviour? The Reading calms us to wait as patiently with our brethren IN THE CHURCH, as our Lord waits on us to repent. To wait for the harvest to separate the wheat from the chafe, the tares, lest we tear up wheat in ridding the tares. The Reading spoke straight at me.

UUs aren’t nearly as open minded as you’d logically expect.

As a conservartive Lutheran, politics is never mentioned in sermons, it is frowned upon.. They preach the law to show us our sins and need for a Savior and then the Gospel to proclaimed we are saved.. You go to any WELS, LCMS or ELS Lutheran church and this what you will.

One good thing about the Pope is that wicked cool hat thingy he wears. Mitre? What I’m trying to say is he accessorizes nicely.

That was funny. Think they are rolling in the aisles?

If rabble rousers like you get their way. Funny that nobody ever seems to complain about Ronald Reagan’s church.

All Protestant faiths are founded on Luther, Calvin, Zwigili and they pretty much thought the same way about the Pope and Catholic Church. You might want to read up on your church history.
