The news and blogosphere is filled with responses to the July 14, 2011 story by Joshua Green, the Senior Editor of the Atlantic, entitled "Michele Bachmann's Church Says the Pope Is the Antichrist." That is because it raises a serious matter which should not be taken lightly, and one which the candidate must address. First, let me share some personal context. I am what is often called a "revert" to the Catholic Church, someone who returned to the Church of my childhood after a long search for the truth. I love being a Catholic Christian. I hold an undergraduate degree and a master's degree in Catholic theology. I am a dissertation away from obtaining a PhD in Catholic Moral Theology. I am also a member of the Clergy, a Deacon. However, I write this article as a private and very concerned citizen.

Is this not largely a self-selection process? Some notable conservative GOP luminaries like Boehner are reputed to be faithful Roman Catholics. Why hasn’t Boehner even made noises about it?
WHY do you people insist on hammering on something this stupid?
Could it have something to do with them not supporting the candidate in question?
In Congress, Catholic Democrats outnumber Catholic Republicans more than 2-1. Catholics are far over-represented in Congress in comparison to their percentage of the whole population. We’ve seen more than enough of that in government.
Anyway, there are tons of bad people in all faiths, and good people in all (most?) faiths as well. I'll vote for Bachmann is given the opportunity.
“Id like to know how you justify supporting Bachman over Santorum, since he is every bit as conservative as she and devout in his faith despite the costs.”
Not to mention that he has won state wide races twice, which MB never did.
Now did I say that? I certainly feel sorry for you, and pray for you, and pity you, but hate you? Nah. Not worth the effort.
EVEN some Catholic clergy are anti-Catholics... let's not forget this... some them are in jail for it...
So do you think I’m going to hell?
Absolutely correct. Now is not the time to debate theology. There is an expression of faith, not of dogma, but of the values that are essential for a free and moral society. This is where all people of faith can and should agree. The enemy is the secular State and the Statists that want to fundamentally change the genetic code of our founding ideals.
Wouldn’t you like to know.
Indeed! I can't figure out why this keeps happening over and over again.
If you can't appreciate the pure beauty of the violin after hearing this, something's wrong with your ears.Or you can get raw with these strings. Either way, the violin is sweet yet lethal.
Do it!
Mee-OW!
Catholics so often insist on reading Catholic ways of doing things into evangelical congregations and then flog the straw man that results. A Lutheran is far less likely to preface a moral comment with "my synod says" (in fact it is almost unheard of -- it's almost always "according to the bible") than a Catholic to preface an analogous remark with "the pope says."
Of course this is not true but the Catholic teaching has been that all non-Catholics are going to hell.
You mean the secret Muslim who attended the Black Liberation Theology Church of the Jew-and-ALL-Things-American variety?
“... want to hear her explain it. The clock is ticking....”
Yes, because we have screeds like this posted on FR:
“Ya don’t like that?
Take it up with The Heavenly Father.
. . . not the pretender in the Vatican.”
or this gem:
“The Vatican Cults
Rubberized history;
Rubberized early church writers;
Rubberized logic
Daffynitionary”
I have no intention of voting for Bachman. She can’t win and frankly, she’s a flake in her interviews.
~Her association with the WELS notwithstanding.
The Know-Nothing inclination is alive and well in 2011.
To one degree or another, isnt every Protestant church at least a little anti-Catholic? Would they just be Catholics if they werent?
I have been both Catholic & Protestant. They both think the other is not going to heaven.
Make that 161 of the Catechism.
The only people I've heard say "The pope says..." are protestants, who then proceed to say something the pope never said.
Uh. This is an issue. She needs to explain why she attended a church that flat committed blasphemy against the Catholic church. I want to hear her explanation before I vote for her.
