Is this not largely a self-selection process? Some notable conservative GOP luminaries like Boehner are reputed to be faithful Roman Catholics. Why hasn’t Boehner even made noises about it?

Maybe he is afraid he would be condemned as a supporter of the anti-Christ.

Actually, he has not had much time to evangelize, but on several occasions (some tearful) he refers to his faith and named a Catholic priest to the office of chaplain, a first for the lower House I heard.
