The absence of a plan to deal with Waikiki's entrenched homeless population for November's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference has lawmakers and residents worried about the possibility of a law enforcement "sweep" they say will symbolize Hawaii's failure to solve the ongoing problem.
The state's homeless coordinator told the Star-Advertiser there is no plan to address the homeless problem in Waikiki specifically for APEC, when Waikiki will be center stage before the leaders of 21 APEC nations and 2,500 international journalists.
Gov. Neil Abercrombie's 90-day homeless plan that was launched in May is intended to address overall, long-term solutions, Marc Alexander said last week from Washington, D.C., where he was attending the National Conference on Ending Homelessness

HI has a HOMELESS COORDINATOR?
Just coordinate them into homes.
The liberals aren’t baffled at all. They put these people on the plantation for voters.
They still haven’t been able to get rid of the homeless? I read something about this weeks ago.
Ship ‘em to colder climes. Not much incentive to be inside in HI.
Hawaii is a failed state kept breathing only through insane taxation of the rich that clog its best properties. In the 70s I was stationed there with the Navy. You could not walk 100 feet in Honolulu without being acosted by a bum, man or woman. There was a rich culture of drug addicts and the permanently stoned middle-class dropouts. Public high schools and colleges were basically flops for these bums at night. No studying required. The rich native culture was being buried alive by the Bum Culture. Hawaii has just gotten worse. It is now a kleptocracy with a chance of serious injury from bum crime. We spent most of our time flying (VP), so Hawaii’s filth was not a constant irritant. The NAS was clean and orderly. I will never be going back.
They are easy to get rid of. Bring back the vagrancy laws. Prohibit camping on beaches. What is hard is getting Jello liberals to do anything that that violates their liberal presumptions. Let the hobos camp on liberal’s front yard for awhile. Suddenly liberal feet would land on the ground.
Homeless folks are bad for the environment. Businesses here cut down the trees an landscaping they sit under or camp in....
And they eat domestic pets.
Bunny hugger an PETA problem....
Hey, in Hawai’i it never gets cold, you can pick fruit from the trees, the surf is full of tasty fish. What do they need a home for?
Oh, that’s right; a voting registry address so they can vote themselves more of OUR money!
Oh, to be homeless and on the beach in HI.
Will work for a surfboard.
Actually JimRed, the Dumbcrats fixed that several years ago (2004) by allowing the filth (homeless) vote and forming several non-profit organizations to get their vote.
I think I will go homeless in Hawaii for a year or two. Getting tired of Kansas.......
A one way ticket back to where they were originally one way ticketed from used to work. Instead, we keep building bird cages....
Anyone know if there is truth to the myth that Rudy gave NYC homeless one way airline tickets to HI? I was skeptical when I heard this, and was told that those homeless are a bigger problem in HI because Disney is building a resort where the biggest camps are.
In WA where I live, the state just spent $27k on a music video telling people to pick up their dog’s droppings so it doesn’t run into the Puget Sound and foul the water.
Hawaii is going to need to make one of those videos for bum crap.
1: determine how many of the homeless are mentally impaired (it's going to be a high percentage).
2: have a grownup discussion about having these folks committed to a care facility. These facilities need not be run by the state. They should instead be private institutions funded be those that "have".
This is a way for those that "have" to be seen (or not if they choose), as being the generous folks that they are - with their own money - not someone elses...
LMAO !
Yep...
