If Texas Gov. Rick Perry runs for president, he'd bring along strong conservative credentials.
He's advocated laws that require a sonogram before an abortion and that force police to enforce federal immigration law.

Since it's a short article with AP copyright warnings, I didn't excerpt any more than above. Article at the link.

He used to be a democrat.
But he will sign obamacare repeal - saving us trillions instantly.
Not sure how he is on enforcing invasion laws. But I would like to see him in the race.

The article to read is the one I linked in my post 2.
Unfortunately I saw this after I posted the previous very very short version.

Perry can get the base to contribute and do ground roots activity...
And he has been around enough to be vetted and knows how to deal on the talking points.
But most of all...He can attack Obozo head on!!!

Another plus:
“In June, Perry signed a largely symbolic bill that allows Texas companies to continue producing incandescent light bulbs banned by the EPA, as long as they are sold within the state. Texas is the only state that has refused to put in place the EPA’s new rules regulating carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases.”
He doesn’t want to allow the EPA to wreck the economy.

I know you were just being sarcastic.
If Palin does’t run, and I think that is very likely, Perry would be the only conservative in the race with executive experience and a strong history of pro-growth, pro-jobs record.

Actually I would say he’s as conservative as he needs to be for now. He hasn’t always been and likely would return to his more moderate positions once he had nothing to lose.

He used to be a democrat. So was Reagan. So was I.
I think that in the last 2 1/2 years Obama has cured a lot of democrats of that disease.

“a largely symbolic bill”
That’s how business as usual Republicans do it.
Make conservative sounding speeches to play with our emotions and take symbolic actions like this one on EPA regs.
Jan Brewer in Arizona did a good one with the symbolic SB 1070 to win her re-election and it got tied up in the courts without being enforced meaning it was ultimately useless.
The games politicians play and Perry is the latest player.

Was this the guy who got kicked around on FR for wanting a large highway through the middle of Texas, or was that someone else?
