Israel's ambassador in Spain, Raphael Schutz, who is about to leave his post, denounced the "anti-Semitism and hatred that exist in Spanish society" in a message on the embassy website Saturday. Schutz, who served in the post for a total of four years, referred to his time in Spain as "not very pleasant." (Snip) ''I also take with me the hatred and the anti-Semitism that still exist in Spanish society, and which I experienced personally," he wrote. The outgoing ambassador cited Israel's Operation Cast Lead in Gaza in 2008-9 and the lethal flotilla raid in 2010 as especially difficult periods.

We should “write off” Spain. They are not a like-minded ally to the USA, and they are rapidly becoming poorer and more inconsequential.
They are not the only ones in Europe becoming so, either.
This is why the USA must get out of NATO immediately.
Weird story; a lot of American Jews fought to put this government in power when Franco tried to keep it civil. The Abraham Lincoln Brigade had a lot of Jewish members, who talked to PBS about it. You can see the footage; they thought they would create a New World Order.
Every European country that doesn’t breed will watch someone else do it for them (like we’re watchng here).

If you ever see Franco’s speech when the US asked to station troops in Spain, you would weep; he mentions that only so late the US recognized what he and the other “fascists” (code word for “Catholic”) fought for. While we propped up “Uncle Joe” Stalin against the other Devil (who killed less people than Stalin, but was certainly the Devil nonetheless), rational people sat out the European war (the Communists in Spain killed 7,000+ clergy, and there are lists of their names). Oddly enough, Muslim troops helped stop the slaughter; thank God for them.
France left NATO a long time ago; it is against the law to wear a Muslim headscarf in public school in France. How about the US?
The Moors helped repel the leftist government in power now in Spain; this government has removed any statues of Franco (who didn’t operate concentration camps).
So what else is new, including the excuses for it from the nations?

Spain under Franco took in more refugee Jews than virtually any European country and certainly a lot more than the US. Furthermore, Spanish embassies around the world were opened to them.
The problem is not Spain, it’s leftism. The Zapatero government is a radical leftist government, elected through fear and manipulation after the Madrid bombings, which were skillfully used by the left. Few people in the US know that the vote was suppressed by “socialist youth” who rioted outside PP (conservative party, Aznar’s party) offices, smashing windows and threatening candidates, and who were called out via SMS from Socialist party headquarters to mob around the polling places in conservative areas and intimidate voters so that they would not enter to vote.
ZP has run a violently anti-Catholic, anti-Jewish, pro-Muslim, pro-gay, enviro-wacko government that has divided and nearly destroyed Spain and has done everything possible to criminalize conservatives and install itself as a dictatorship. Like all leftists, he hates Israel and has been vocal in stating so and he has done everything to undermine it and make Spanish policies hostile to it.
The only bright thing is that his economic policies have been so bad he has virtually destroyed the country and this is preventing him from carrying out all his policies, which would otherwise lead to the imprisonment and probably death of Church officials, conservative party members and anyone who supports Israel (the latter because it is a marker of someone who does not agree with the radical left).
Zapatero is very similar to Obama in almost every way, including his hate-filled rhetoric and the leftist fanatics with whom he surrounds himself.
Anti-Semitism is as old as the hills; it was very briefly in abeyance for two or three decades after WWII, but it never really passed out of fashion.
Aznar doomed his party by involving Spain in the Iraq war, which by now has been exposed as a disaster; Europeans in general, and Spaniards in particular, are pacifists. Even Franco, at the end of the civil war, laid down his sword in a cathedral and said he would never use it again unless in defense of Spain itself (and he never did, while we had our Vietnam and France had their Indochina & Algeria wars). He paved the way for a transition to democracy, against his better judgment; the communist government the army had revolted against in 1936 had been duly elected.
The speed with which Zapatero showed his true colors was frightening; it was like 1936 all over again. I’ve been expecting them to change Spain’s flag since they took power; they can’t be happy with the monarchist crest on it.
