The House on Friday morning moved to block federal light bulb efficiency standards without even a roll call vote.
An amendment from Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) defunding the Energy Department's standards for traditional incandescent light bulbs to be 30 percent more energy efficient starting next year was approved rather anticlimactically by voice vote.
The success of the amendment appeared inevitable in the House, where the fate of the incandescent light bulb became a symbol in the fight against federal regulations.
Democrats and the White House have opposed the move to block the standards, which were included in a 2007 energy bill signed by President George W. Bush. DOE has said the standards could save consumers $6 billion a year.

This is good, I hope it sticks. The “energy saving” bulbs don’t save anything.
This whole idea was brought on by the same idiots who decided that the bathroom lights need to be on a timer. Guess what? Turning the lights on and off 400 times a day DECREASES bulb life, so it winds up COSTING money, not saving. And it’s real fun to be sitting on the toilet in the dark throwing toilet paper balls to try go get the sensor to turn the lights back on.
Color temperature is independent from spectral uniformity. Incandescent bulbs tend to be rather lacking toward the violet end of the spectrum, but the light they produce is quite uniform in the red, yellow, and green regions. LEDs and fluorescent lights tend to produce a number of discrete wavelengths. Some materials reflect light of certain discrete wavelengths much better than light of nearby wavelengths. When viewed with LED or fluorescent lights, such materials may appear to have a color different from those observed under sunlight, firelight, or incandescent light.
I don't question that in the least.
Any more I would trust US economic news out of Beijing more than I do Washington. (beltway press)
I LOVE it.....as Palin said.. “Gold start to the GOP!”
I thought the best part after finding out that TRIS could cause kidney and bladder cancer was when Sears (IIRC), and some other American companies that were sitting on a lot of TRIS sleepwear marketed it in Europe as High End, fancy schmancy sleepwear for kids.
Depends on if your Rep is a dim, or not.
If they are, you'll likely be dealing with jackbooted thugs from the Department of Homeland Security discussing something about "domestic terrorism."
This ain't your Father's U.S. of A., and his Oldsmobile is long gone.
I live in Minnesota. If I break a bulb in January, there's no way in hell I'm leaving my window open for 15 minutes. Barack has made fuel exorbitantly expensive as it is.
I don’t want to ban either light bulb. Consumers should get to choose which they prefer.
Democrats are only pro-choice when it comes to killing babies.
The day the light bulb Nazis decided to try to force me to use those pos bulbs was the day I began buying 100 watt bulbs by the case. Buy one get one free, a good sale, I bought everything on the shelf. I have enough bulbs to last 3 generations. I won’t say how many I have now in storage but I can assure you, the number is astronomical. I detest those other bulbs. I’m stocked up up on enough 60, 75 and 100 watt to last for generations.
It just made me feel good to buy them. Each time I paid I said to myself.... FUBO!!
Me too!!! Oh well, at least I will never need to buy light bulbs again.
Bingo!
I use 100 w bulbs to keep my pipes from bursting in the wellhouse and in the bathroom (no central heat). They work like a charm, keep the bath pleasant all winter and the well pipes open even in single digits last winter.
I’ve got a stash.
They are $$ and I hate them.
Don’t forget that this was done under George W. Bush. It is part of his legacy along with the prescription drug program.
I want this to pass this bill if for no other reason than to piss Neal Boortz and Al Gore off for the same reason.
The Senate hasn't proposed, much less passed, a budget in well over two years. As a matter of fact I can't recall the last thing they passed. They certainly won't pass something that removes government power, no matter how slight.
Heck, if I could save even $2 or $3 billion a year it would be worthwhile for me to change...

I’ll bet the Dems and Obama will pass it, they will see that it’s a spending bill and won’t even read it.
Well this is one small win for us, but the eye is on the prize, a solid debt ceiling.
I get a chuckle thinking about many of Obama’a base following these instructions....what a pile of stable droppings!
