She should have replied with loud disdain for "catlickers, towel heads, goat humpers, snake snatchin baptists, fat budha bellies, and various other marginal bands of jesus freaks."
That would have given them something to talk about that would have been tasty, instead of this.

I am a Catholic, but not offended by this. I am offended that she’s using Ed Rollins.

How this “non-news” can even be compared to Obama and the America-hating church that he subscribed to (until it became public) is a joke. The by-line says it all.

Maybe this stuff would go away when a Papal Catholic received a GOP nomination for President. I wonder who it will be?

If it is true that she gave up her church for political gain, I’d scratch her from my list of possible candidates, no matter how ‘pure’ she seems on the issues.
Of course, I don’t have any respect for Henry IV, either.

She is a (was) a Lutheran, which means that she was siding with the reformers particularly Martin Luther in the reformation dispute. The reformation --you know it was in all the papers! It was even in the history books before the NEA had it scrubbed. There are real and substantial theological and worldview differences between the doctrine of the Council of Trent and the reformed confessions. It is one thing to love Roman Catholic members,(we are to love our enemies) even value them as voters and citizens in the body politic, but to leave a church over the matter is to confound matters of doctrine with expediency.
Luther, Calvin, Knox and the Westminster assembly all labeled the Pope as either "an" or "the" antichrist. Mrs. Bachmann hate the theology and love the people, but never leave the church for the love of the world.

There is so much wrong with this story, it's hard to tell where to begin.
First, this story was planted by a radical leftist, Adam Green whose goal was to create chaos among allies.
The bum succeeded. This story does not deserve this kind of hysteria.
Second, of course there are differences of opinion among members of churches, otherwise we would all belong to the same church.
There is truth to the story but those who are reacting should understand there are differences and it can also be said that Catholics think that all non-Catholics are heretics and are going to hell.
We've all been getting along and to take this liberal's bait does no one any good except liberals.

Barack Obama is the precedent for the fact that, regardless of what’s preached in your church, you are not politically liable for what is preached there.
Michelle Bachmann is in the clear.

The most bigoted things I hear about Catholics these days comes from liberals, including liberal Christians.

Wisconsin Synod is one of the most conservative of Lutheran groups. Having said that, Lutherans of all stripes have railed against Catholics for centuries—since, like, LUTHER. Nothing new there. In fact, “anti-Catholic” is probably one of the issues that most closely unites all Lutherans from the Wisconsin Synod to the Missouri Synod to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. No news here—it’s part of Lutheran identity.
BUT... It would have been fun to see main-stream media types take on Lutherans as EXTREME. Oh, well.... Maybe she’ll join the Missouri Synod crowd and we can still have some entertainment; they are still fairly conservative.
I have to agree with posters above—you don’t change churches for politics. Makes me disappointed in you, Michelle. The political winds must be stronger than your faith commitment.....hmmmmm.

Well, I guess I'll throw my two cents in here, and incur the wrath coming! The ‘common knowledge’ that Lutherans view the Pope as the antichrist is almost right. Actually, Lutherans view the papacy as anti-christ. Although there may have been individual Pope's who were anti-christ (perhaps), Lutherans don't think that Benedict or any recent Pope himself was THE Antichrist. Luther thought that there was no scriptural support for a “Pope”. Remember, Luther thought of himself as a Roman Catholic and wasn't intending to create a new denomination. And, secondly, there actually is only ONE christian church - from Jesus Christ - and that is the ‘church universal’. Denominations are a thing created by men to expound differences in interpretation and meaning of scripture. But, that's okay if we have true faith. That Michele is leaving WELS is alright with me, since I think that WELS is unreasonably restrictive anyway, and I hope that she finds another true Christian congregation to attend. Regardless, she may get my vote - unless Sarah runs.

Obligatory Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Joke:
A man of faith dies without claiming allegience to any one “church”. So, St. Anthony is showing the various rooms in Heaven where he may spend eternity.
The first on is full of people drinking and playing bingo. The man says “This looks like fun. Who are they?” St. Anthony responds, “This is the Catholic room.”
The next room is full of people singing and dancing to some fantastic music. The man says, “This looks like fun. Who are they?” St Anthony responds, “This is the Black Baptist room.”
The next room is full of people sitting at long tables, looking out the corner of their eyes and whispering about their neighbors. The man says, “Who are these people who arent having any fun.” St Anthony responds, “These are the Wisconsin Synod Lutherans and they think they are the only ones up here.”
