I’ve been hearing whispers that Michele Bachmann’s husband, Marcus, is gay for a while. It’s now exploding into a full-on meme.
Given my early bedtime, I’m always at least a day late on “Daily Show” bits. Last night, I saw this episode from Wednesday:

Now, I admit, Marcus Bachmann is pudgy and has a less-than-baritone voice. But, last I checked, those aren’t the distinguishing characteristics of homosexuality.
Apparently, gay activist Dan Savage has started pushing the meme hard, too. And Slate’s June Thomas is calling him out:
Dan Savage begins each of his “Savage Love Cast” podcasts with a rip-roaring rant—a sword of invective aimed at homophobic school boards that won’t let lesbians attend their high-school prom, hypocritical politicians, and generally despicable people. It’s a rousing start to 45 minutes of sex advice, and it’s usually right on and empowering.
This week, though, the podcast started with an attack on Marcus Bachmann’s masculinity.After a short preamble about the accuracy of gaydar (with a scientific citation, no less), Savage—whom I respect tremendously—played a tape of Michele’s* husband’s speaking voice. Bachmann has a tiny bit of a lisp—though it’s barely perceptible—and he slurs his words slightly. To Savage’s ears, it was a gay accent. Savage played the tape over and over, and reprised it several times throughout the podcast. He even did his own Bachmann impression, exaggerating the lisp and camping it up.

(Newser) – Jon Stewart nearly explodes on the Daily Show last night holding in a flood of zingers he’d like to deliver about the apparent sexual orientation of Michele Bachmann’s seemingly self-hating gay-bashing husband Marcus. But he holds his tongue as best he can, finally spilling that the mister has apparently “absorbed” all the gayness his “Christian counseling” therapy clinic is reportedly trying to eradicate. Then he runs a clip of a dancing Marcus, remarking that he’s an “Izod shirt away from the gay character on Modern Family.”
Still, Stewart struggles mightily not to “ridicule” Bachmann for his “seeming hypocrisy,” even though his clinic therapy is “doing real damage to real people.” He then runs a clip of Bachmann calling gays “barbarians” who “need to be disciplined.” OK, OK, Stewart finally dishes as he flashes a scene from Hollywood Squares: “He dances and sounds not only gay, but center-square gay.”

When this story broke a couple weeks ago, the person who posted it said only “this will not end well”.
Truth be told I believe the Obama stories out of Chicago. While I’ve seen much less, if anything, re: Marcus, his style, interests and proclivities are such that his being gay wouldn’t be a shock.
Has he been indiscreet and active such that there’s anything of substance on him? That would somewhat surprise me, but it’s a possibility.
And you should understand the Democrat view by now: only gays in the GOP are hypocritical or newsworthy, because they tend to take relatively anti-gay positions.

Unfortunately there are plenty on the right behaving the exactly same way because they think they’re helping Sarah Palin. In the long run they’re doing just as much damage to Palin because of a wrongheaded belief that she can take on the entire GOP establishment and win. I don’t believe she can do it alone.
If they don’t figure it out fast, we’ll end up with Mitt Romney as the nominee and they’ll have no one but themselves to blame.

On certain days good 1/5th of the article on this site are dealing with that very topic - but I guess you would surmise that that make FR a “pro-gay” site... Since we must be protesting the issue too much.
