The fourth consecutive day of debt meetings between President Barack Obama and congressional leaders from both parties ceased abruptly with Obama walking out of Wednesday's talks, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said.
Cantor told FOX News Channel that the approximately two-hour meeting at the White House Wednesday "ended with president abruptly walking out of the meeting."
He said Obama shoved back from the desk and said "we'll see you tomorrow."
"We are very far apart right now," Cantor told FOX, adding, "The progress we made seems to have been erased now." "He [Obama] became very agitated. Said 'Ronald Reagan wouldn't sit here. You either have to compromise on the dollar figure or the grand bargain' ... He said 'don't call my bluff. I'm going to the American people on this.'"
A Republican aide described Wednesday's gathering to FOX as the "most tense of the week."
But a senior Democratic source disputed Cantor's account of meeting, telling FOX that the president had instead shut down Cantor's continual interruptions about a possible short-term deal.
"Obama was concluding the meeting, giving the closing remarks and talking about meeting tomorrow," the source said.
"Cantor interrupted him and raised for the third time doing a short-term [after it had already been addressed twice], and Obama shut him down. Cantor was playing the role he's been playing throughout this whole thing -- being not productive."
When asked if they had made progress in the last round of negotiations, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said "no," according to Politico.
The Treasury Department has said if a deal is not reached by Aug. 2, the US would default on its debt. Obama has said such a move could pull the US back into a recession.

Who do you believe.....Cantor, Obama or his lyin' "source"?
Leni
Too much tea?
Cantor & Boehner - please show 0bama and Geithner where they can shove their default threats - they should not be allowed to hold the negotiations hostage to such spurious issues. I think now is the time to double down on no tax increases - they have been insulting, arbitrary, inflexible and have tried to apply inappropriate pressure - so I think they should be shut down completely on any demands they may make for tax increases whatsoever. And there is the matter that do otherwise may well threaten the future of the Republican Party.
...doing otherwise...
Waaaaaaa, they don’t listen to me Moochelle.
I’m president damn it.
Bill Ayers, George Soros, Bernadene Dorn, Uncle Farakan, Reverend Wright and everybody else told me I could F this nation up if I wanted to, and I’m not able to do it as fast as I want.
Where’s that damned ash tray the Clintons gave us? You know, the one Hillary put cracks in. I need that thing...
If Obama “takes it to the American people” he may be surprised at the reception he gets.
The Stupid Party... develop a spine?
Cryin' John and Cantor will compromise in the "spirit of bi-partisanship."
They also do not understand that if you cut spending, you do not need to raise the credit limit.
There is plenty of money to pay off the interest on debt, SS, Military Pay, Medicare and Medicaid, etc.
You will have to cut ObamaCare, the EPA budget, the DofED, budget, the DofEnergy budget, the DOA, NPR, etc. So get to it.
On February 6, 2006, Bush proposed a $2.77 Trillion Budget. On February 26. 2009 Obama proposed a $4 Trillion Budget. You Obama, got us into this, you damn well better get us out of this you old world, stupid, Marxist. You ran out of our money, you damn fool.
When will Obama grow up? He can’t take the heat so he walks out of the kitchen. What a wimp.
Yes, it is a big IF. I really do hope it happens though. We need a showdown and more of the change that began with the Tea Party. It will be a long and painful journey IF we continue on it but the more diligent we are in our travel the sooner we will get to our goal.
He's going to the American people on this, and once again use divisive rhetoric BS to try to turn Americans against one another, with his class warfare and tales of no benefits to seniors, vets, disabled, ect... Obama is the worst thing to ever happen to America.
Said ‘Ronald Reagan wouldn’t sit here.
Someone should have said....”Well Mr. President, I knew Ronald Reagan and you sir are no Ronald Reagan.”
He can just keep walking as far as I’m concerned.
Zer0 cannot be so stupid to realize that the ball’s in his court. It has been in his court for a long time. The Democrats had control of Congress when Zer0 came into office. Why didn’t they control spending then, when they had both houses of Congress? Instead, the only thing they focused on was Obamacare. It should never have been legislated during a recession. The Democrats should have known that health care reform was too expensive and we are seeing the results of that legislation now. Many have criticized the Democrats for jumping on health care before the economy was fixed. One can imagine what it will do to the country when it is in full implementation. Many say that the reason businesses are not taking the risk in new ventures is for fear of what Obamacare will do to the economy.
Obamacare should be cancelled due to lack of money in the budget.
The Obama regime should have known that the only way to increase revenue into the government is to decrease the costs of business in the private sector. Such costs are regulation, taxes, energy costs (especially fuel prices) and poor infrastructure. The Obama regime has done nothing to reduce these costs. I am sure the private sector has millions of ways government could use to reduce these costs. Instead, the Obama regime has acted as the enemy of businesses in the private sector. It has wasted valuable time enhancing the business climate by reducing the cost of business.
Perhaps Zer0 should start by taking a businessman for a round of golf instead of spending that time for his own self indulgence and stroking his own ego in waging class warfare. It illustrates a President way out of his league intellectually during a time when the nation needs a leader to come up with answers.
His lies are flat out whoppers aren’t they? I don’t know how even the lame stream media can cover them up.
Plus, he’s saying SS checks might not go out if the debt ceiling is not raised. He has just admitted the “lock box” “trust fund” is as empty as his promises.
There is a damn good RNC ad in his works if they want to make it.
