Laura Ingraham grills Mitch McConnell on his Plan Z option, floated yesterday as a last-ditch approach to the debt ceiling issue, and McConnell argues the benefits of the plan as a defense of Republicans against getting saddled with blame for economic damage done during a potential default. Ingraham asks McConnell whether hes positioning as a realist, and McConnell says that reality will be that Obama wont compromise in this process. If not, and Republicans dont blink, Obama will have the upper hand:

But getting saddled with the blame for abject capitulation in the face of a win-win situation is okay?
If McConnell thinks this plan will give him political cover amongst independents, he’s a fool. The American people aren’t that stupid. You can’t give the President power to do something and then act like you opposed it. That’s just plain idiotic.

The plan calls for Obama to approach Congress with spending cuts.
Obama has been totally unwilling to do this in the current behind-closed-door process. Now the WHITE HOUSE must INITIATE cuts BEFORE coming to Congress.

That’s BS. 100% BS. The fact is McConnell approved this plan, and it requires Republican votes to pass. The Republicans will own capitulating the power of Congress to the President, and that’s exactly what this plan does.
I see Dana Perino saying McConnel was doing the right thing, and she doesn't seem to get it either. Seems a lot of the Bush staffers were RINOs too.
If it really was so clever, he should have coordinated with the House leadership in deploying it, so that he didn't appear to be a free-agent offering up his "plan b" to the surprise of the other Republicans in the negotiations.
All that McConnell accomplished was to give the MSM the story-line that the Republicans were caving, and allowed the MSM to ignore Obama's actions.
I say again, this negotiating with Obama should never have happened. Boehner and McConnell should have forced these negotiations into the Senate, where it properly belongs. Let Obama and Reid work out the Democrat plan in the Senate budget, and then use the budget reconciliation process to hammer out the details with the Republicans in the House.
Make Obama look like a bystander, not the controlling power-player.

You can get Obama out of office legally and constitutionally, but you’re proposing plans that undo the Constitution. Impeach Obama for the lawlessness he is already doing.
The so-called 'benefit' to him is that he wants to insulate the Republican Party from blame for any potential shortcoming. That's being a very good party ideologue. Notice how his constituants are not mentioned at all, with no consideration given to those who count. That would be us if anybody is wondering.

You're not up to speed.
Repubs will still NOT vote on it if Obama does not introduce spending. He has not done it behind closed doors so McConnell is challenging him to do it in Congress IF he wants Repub votes.
Otherwise Obama owns this thing without ONE Repub vote.

This plan will fail in the House.
Obama will assert that he has the authority to extend the debt ceiling under the 14th Amendment. I bet he has a team of Constitutional lawyers preparing a barrage of briefs to throw at Congress at a moment’s notice.
Obama will raise the debt ceiling by Executive Order and then tell Congress to take it to the SCOTUS if they do not like his call.
The Republicans will go along with this and we will end up with a bunch of “closed loopholes” and fewer “corporate welfare” subsidies that Obama will claim as tax hikes.
Oh, well....
