You can forget about Sarah Palin as a Republican candidate, if you want to look silly by fall
The Los Angeles Times ^ | July 13, 2011 | Andrew Malcolm

Posted on 07/13/2011 11:17:39 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Obviously, Sarah Palin can't possibly run for president in 2012.

She's waited too long. Her ballyhooed 'One Nation' bus tour has virtually vanished. Have you noticed any lines to see the movie about her, "The Undefeated"? And that admiring film got panned by some people you never heard of.

Palin's not built any discernible grassroots organizations in early voting places like Iowa and New Hampshire, as traditional candidates do. And it looks like she's not going to pour a couple of million dollars into the meaningless Ames Straw Poll that will be so important for a week or so next month.

Quitting her elected job barely halfway through the first term turned Palin into a national nobody. She's missed a couple of Republican debates already.

Another tea party favorite Michele Bachmann has surged to the front in the first caucus state's early polls. The national media's gaffe detector is on full power for Bachmann and Palin, both mothers of five. And anyway, a large number of American voters say they wouldn't vote for Palin if she was a former governor with one national campaign under her belt.

But there's a couple of little-noticed problems with any facile dismissal of Palin's possible 2012 candidacy: Media derision only feeds those who don't like her already.

It actually strengthens Palin with a wide swath of overlooked Americans who don't trust mainstream institutions but do identify with the mother of five.

Why do you think Palin keeps shooting back at the media and even starting fights when things get quiet? Any media attention is better than none. Ask Rick Santorum.

Also, American voters don't matter for beans right now. American Republican voters do.....

Sarah is biding her time, allowing Bachmann to take all of the early MSM and RINO flak. Sarah will step in and clean up, maybe even as late as after the NH primary. She will not lose a primary from SC on.The GOP will try anything to stop her and annoit Romney however so I would really like to see her cut away from the pack now and start a third party. I’m sick of the way the RINOS have handled the debt limit, abortion, Obamacare etc. etc. etc. Dump them now and make a real run at this with CONSERVATIVE backing.

Frankly speaking if Perry gets in we dont need a Palin. Perry has a few policy negatives, but is a true blue conservative even though Palin has no policy negatives.

You did address 'all', so what does Perry have that Palin does NOT.... NOT saying I have a horse in this so called race, because I have NO clue what Palin intends to do. MY issue with Sarah is IF she knows what a loser/user lord McCain was/is and IF she will keep him out of her chariot. I really do not know enough about Perry to know if he is yet little more than a random all about himself politician. We have had more than enough liberalism to darn near sink this nation and I have yet to see any distinguishing features demonstrated by this guy Perry. I am very leery of a Texan governor from previous experience.

It’s the Los Angeles Times. Their credibility is zero.

The only thing lower than them is the NY Times.

As I see it, Andrew Malcolm, writing with a nice sense of irony in the liberal Los Angeles Times, actually gets it right.

Unlike most of his leftist media brethren, Malcolm realizes that Sarah Palin is definitely a force to be reckoned with in the 2012 presidential election sweepstakes. My only quibble with the article is that although he lists Palin's positive attributes Malcolm neglects to recognize her charisma, which is hardly a deficit (ask Al Gore). Malcolm makes the point that those who airily dismiss Sarah Palin as a lightweight who no one likes and who has no intention of running for president are manifestly wrong. Although it seems strange to be agreeing with anything coming from the Los Angeles Times, especially when it concerns Sarah Palin, I agree with Mr. Malcolm.

Why the hell does anyone give a damn what a journalist thinks about ANY topic? Why do they have any credibility at all? Most of them can’t clean a cat box without studying a video on ‘YouTube’ first...

I thought the article was sarcasm in that he was taking “conventional wisdom” and showing how ridiculous it sounded. He covers every single talking point the naysayers use all the time.

Why would I care if it got panned by some people I never heard of?

That's the point. The excerpted part of the article is pretty much satirical sarcasm.

Ron Paul will never debate 0bama because Ron Paul will never get the Republican nomination.

He may be a great guy, but he’s not a winning candidate.

In blackjack terms, 0bama is dealt an 18 as the dealer and Ron Paul is dealt a 17. A solid hand, but not a winner. Statistically, he will bust if he hits. We need a candidate that’s at least a 19 hand, but of course we’d all love a 21.

Read the article, everyone! You're missing the point of it. He's mocking those who think she won't run, can't win. He obviously thinks differently.

Every heard of sarcasm or satire?

Malcolm actually has written some pretty fair articles about Sarah recently.

LA Times is the source. I read no further.

I recommend reading it. It's actually pretty clever. The author is using sarcasm at the beginning to repeat all the lib media typical talking points. His point becomes clearer the further you read.

Is it too late to make a knee-jerk thread response based on a mis-read of the title? I sure hope not.

In a recent Newsweek cover story Palin was quoted as saying she believes she could win a national campaign. But what does she know? She was just a former mayor who thought she could beat an incumbent Republican governor in Alaska who was part of a powerful, entrenched decades-old GOP machine. And look what happened there.

So obviously Sarah Palin can’t possibly run for president in 2012.

Unless she does.

Yeppers!
