What do you think ? Governor Palin ? Is she running ? (also vote in the poll inside this posting)

First, I have absolutely no inside track (despite what some may think) but I am guessing Governor Sarah Palin is running for President in 2012. Basis for my guess ? First, she has never said no. In fact, she told me in an interview about 8 weeks ago, and this remark has been repeated by other journalists to her and by her, she has the “fire in her belly” interest in running. This is not a yes, and it is not a no but leans more in the yes direction. In that interview I tried to get a more definitive answer out of her as to whether she is running or not but only got admission of “fire in the belly.” Second, we have not heard much from her since her bus tour which makes me suspicious that she is gearing up (but just a guess…maybe she is doing something else? writing another book? spending time with her family? ) Third, as the days go on, some of the declared Republican candidates are having a few troubles – whether it be a gaffe or troubles raising money. This must be tempting to a politician looking at the race and who has not said no. Fourth, I read in the Des Moines Register that there are Palin volunteers – not from a Palin organization – all over the ground in Iowa. Fifth, there seems to be a media strategy – two weeks ago a documentary about her time as Governor opened in Iowa and then yesterday the cover story in Newsweek Magazine hit the newsstands. Sixth, she has already gone through the media digging into her life and past which discourages many politicians. Seventh, are there any signs she is not running other than that she is not physically in Iowa and has not declared a candidacy?

What do you think? Is she running? or not? (*take the poll)

I came to that realization over a year ago. Especially after the campaign for McCain in 2010.

“Sarah Palin needs to do something SOON...”

I’ve heard talk about her not declaring her candidacy till 7/27 or after. Something to do with ethics and it being 2 years after the date she stepped down as governor. If it’s going to happen, it will happen then.

As I indicated I take she ,in your comparison/analogy, hasn’t decided whether it is a suitable weekend for hunting. This doesn’t stop a real hunter from having all the gear ready.

Only a person who is running would give a speech like this one:

If both Palin and Perry get in

I don't think they both will run...I think it is one or the other and I think they talk.

They are friends from the govenor's association. Just my opinion.

Considering their ages, it would make sense for him to run now and her to run in 2016 or 2020.

If he should run and win, it wouldn't surpise me for her to be in his cabinet.

Drill, Baby, drill.

You don’t have a candidate in the race do you? If not, then your annoyance at Palin for not formally being in the race seems a little odd.

I'm sorry. I thought you'd been on one of my recent Gov. Rick Perry threads.

Here's one I posted today.

Texas governor [Rick Perry] seeks advice on a GOP bid (also being briefed on U.S. defense, trade..)

My problem with Perry though is his stances on illegal immigration

Perry is for legal immigration.

So it's uncertain for 2 more weeks or longer. I'll be watching.

That is the point, Rick Perry is no more in the race than Sarah Palin, in fact less so since Palin has been clearly campaigning for years and is farther advanced at this point than Perry is.

Your annoyance at Palin for not formally being in the race seems a little odd since you don’t have a candidate in the race either.

I'm going with 8/15 at the absolute earliest, and possibly not until Labor Day. For a few reasons:

1) She's still "on the clock" for Jury duty pretty much the entire month of July. She's not going to start anything until that's out of the way.

2) The Iowa straw poll is August 13. Given that it's essentially a test of organizing and paying for supporters to show up and vote for you, that's probably not something you're really going to want to try for less than 2 weeks after launching your campaign. So, avoid any potential negative perceptions of a poor showing as a declared candidate by not being a declared candidate at that point. (Same goes for Perry at this point, BTW.) As a potential bonus, an 8/15 entry essentially steals the thunder of whomever does win the straw poll.

3) The bus tour. Assuming Palin is going to hold to her previous statements about continuing the bus tour (the jury duty summons does give her an "out" here), then as long as it's a SarahPAC venture, she's not going to be a declared candidate for anything while it's still going on. Normally, I'd be pretty happy predicting 8/15 and leaving it at that, but the bus tour has me thinking that she might wait until closer to Labor Day.

4) Fundraising. An entry between mid-August and early September still gives her plenty of time for initial fundraising prior to her first FEC filing for the quarter ending on 9/30 while still being able to point out that it was for only half a quarter (or less).

Sure, we should have made Reagan Secretary of Defense.

Palin’s greatest asset is getting things done, her leadership, her ability to take on entrenched special interests and bureaucrats and get change done.

I also believe the same thing, that Perry is taking the final steps to enter. Palin has done nothing in regards to taking FEC steps, other than keep her following and the MSM stirred up and guessing.

I am also under the belief that Palin knows her overall negative image and needs to correct that before going on a National ticket. She might have her eye on the Jon Kyl Senate seat in Arizona, to gain more experience which she currently lacks.

Well, I’m done with Sarah.

One thing about trolls, is that they are liars.

You have been against Palin since you signed up at FR, and here you are pretending that it is something new.

You started in on Palin with your third post at freerepublic.
