This really isn’t a big deal.
Come and wake me up when you can put food in your ear and have it chewed up and ingested.
Seriously though, when I copied Morse Code it was very common to put your ‘cans’ on your cheekbones rather than over the ears.
Could copy just as well (dependent on signal strength etc) but didn’t run the risk of loud blasts of static directly into your ear canal.
I learned this method after experiencing the direct static trick and to this day am beset by Tinnitus.
