Assad Loyalists Storm US Embassy
Arutz Sheva ^ | 11/7/11 | Gavriel Queenan

Posted on 07/11/2011 12:31:46 PM PDT by Eleutheria5

Protesters loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad briefly broke into the US embassy in Damascus on Monday, while security guards at the French embassy used live ammunition to prevent them gaining access, diplomats told Reuters. No casualties were reported in the attacks, which followed a visit by the US and French ambassadors to the city of Hama last week in support of the hundreds of thousands of pro-democracy demonstrators there despite a harsh crackdown by Assad gunmen.

Assad accused the United States - and Ambassador Robert Ford - of trying to incite the populace against his regime, also saying the US flag was flown in support of the protesters.

But State Department officials on Monday formally condemned Syria for failing to protect the US embassy complex in Damascus from a violent assault it said was encouraged by a pro-government Syrian television station.

"A television station that is heavily influenced by Syrian authorities encouraged this violent demonstration," the State Department said in a statement.

"We strongly condemn the Syrian government's refusal to protect our embassy, and demand compensation for damages. We call on the Syrian government to fulfill its obligations to its own citizens as well," the statement said.

With Obama, the standing orders might end up being that the Marines are to put down their arms and organize the American diplomatic employees in neat lines to meet the Syrian mob.

OUR embassy is OUR turf (even if it is only the size of a postage stamp) in that country!!

Actually, no, it's not. That is a widely held misconception. However, the host country may not enter the grounds of an embassy without permission of the nation in question (Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations).

The host country is responsible for security on embassy grounds. My worry is that Zero doesn't have the balls to handle an assault on an American embassy with anything approaching competence.

Questions? What questions? I have one rhetorical question: Why are they even discussing the Golan Heights.

I'm discussing the Golan Heights because the current situation in Syria demonstrates that the Syrian leadership is willing to ignore human rights, murder its own people, and ignore standards of international behavior when it suits their purpose. And these are the people that liberals thought Israel should give the Golan Heights to if they "promised" not to attack. Thankfully, the Israelis are not as stupid as liberals.

The value of Arab "promises" - whether in the Vienna Conventions, the Geneva Conventions, nuclear non-proliferation or in so-called "peace treaties" is zip, zilch, nada, null. However, they do have a keen sense of who is weak so I expect our embassy will be taken over (a la Tehran) because Assad knows that Obama won't do anything about it.

Remember the bad old days before B.O. when the world didn’t love us so much because of President Bush?

Glad to see Obama fixed that.

"We strongly condemn the Syrian government...

Obama, in a rare off-teleprompter remark, was overheard to say, "Assad, why can't you control your state media and thugs as effectively as I control mine?"

"With Obama, the standing orders might end up being that the Marines are to put down their arms and organize the American diplomatic employees in neat lines to meet the Syrian mob."

Over the Christmas Holidays I was fortunate enough to hear an interview with Rocky Sickmann, who is currently the Director of Military Sales for Anheuser-Busch. in 1979 he was a 22 year-old Marine at the US Embassy.

He stated that although he was armed, they were under strict orders to not engage, even as the *students* swarmed and overwhelmed the compound.

It was his opinion that he should have fired. He felt that virtually all subsequent Islamic attacks on US interests from the Beirut barracks to 9/11 arose from our failure to show resolve and strength at the onset of the Iranian hostage crisis. He tearfully said that he would give up everything he has, including his job, his family and grandchild if he could go back to that day and pull the trigger.

“Did anybody else flash-back to Nov 4, 1979, when they saw that headline??”

Yes. Definitely yes. Bad deja vu all over again. Carter - Iran; Obama - Syria.

I wonder if the US is in fact agitating against the government in Syria, as it has in Egypt and Libya, while tacitly condoning Iran. Hussein is indeed more a creature of the Caliphate than the Politburo.

That is a shocking, but not surprising story given that Carter was President. The Muslims only respect force. The more we appease and ascribe Western values to Islamists, the more we will get killed.

The community organizing marxist is out in the open now. Of course the leftists are involved in organizing this disorder. It is the arab spring and lone ranger obama rides the rainbow freedom unicorn that shoots democracy dust out of its behind with trusted tonto clinton by his side negotiating universal freedom for homosexual sex and socialism around the world.

Say your prayers and get right with God, Freepers! could we be entering the days of Psalm 83 and

(NASB) Isaiah 17:1 The oracle concerning Damascus. “Behold, Damascus is about to be removed from being a city And will become a fallen ruin.

So true. I should think beanbags would be enough to teach the demonstrators that they were making a bad choice.
