BERLIN, Germany, July 11, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) A controversial form of pre-implantation embryonic testing for genetic disorders was approved by German parliament last Thursday. Members of Parliament voted 326-260 in favor of the bill, with eight MPs abstaining.
Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) extracts up to two cells from a human embryo obtained through in vitro fertilization for testing for severe genetic disorders that could result in stillbirth or miscarriage. Such testing is a highly sensitive subject in Germany, where the memory of the atrocities committed in the name of eugenics under the Nazis remains fresh in the national consciousness.
The testing will only be permitted in cases where one or both of the parents have a history of serious genetic illness, and only after their case has been approved by an ethics panel. The testing is expected to be used in up to a few hundred cases yearly, according to AFP.
The German parliament took up the debate after a federal court ruled last year in favor of the testing. Many MPs expressed concern that the procedure would be used to obtain designer babies.
Parents should not have to apologize if they do not have a so-called perfect baby, said Deputy Wolfgang Zoeller of the conservative Christian Social Union.
Roman Catholic Archbishop Robert Zollitsch, the chairman of the Episcopal Conference, called the law a violation of the principle of respecting human dignity.
Wolfgang Thierse, of the opposition Social Democrats, also said the screening would violate a persons right to life.
IVF critics point out that while the procedure produces its miracle babies, it is only through a process that results in the death of many human embryos.
Additionally, there are many concerns about the long-term health complications for IVF babies. Studies in the UK in recent years revealed that children conceived through IVF suffer from nearly twice as many health problems as those conceived naturally. Evidence also exists that IVF is more likely to cause birth defects and genetic abnormalities.
Eugenicists ALWAYS start by say that their procedures will be "rare."

And any Leftist lie always ends with “and it’s only for the children.”

Exactly right.
Its voluntary.
It’s being done to an embryo in a dish. Doesn’t involve compulsory abortion.
So what’s the issue?
Another reason why all unnatural conception procedures are against Natural Law and therefore morally wrong.
An embryo is a tiny human being. If it’s okay to see if a tiny human being is unfit to live and have the choice to kill him or her, why not see if larger human beings are unfit to live, and kill him or her?
Just because the tiny human being can’t fight back, I guess.
In “in vitro” fertilization, multiple embryos are usually created. Most of these fertilized embryos don’t get implanted and are frozen, donated to fertility clinics or destroyed.
So why not test and implant only the very best embryos?
The sanctity of human life. Man is authorized to take life for social justice reasons, such as capitol punishment for a murderer. Man has never been authorized to kill the weak or the sick or those who have genetic errors, or the ugly, or those that have a different skin color, or those that look at you weird, or the unwanted or inconvenient even if they haven't been born yet.
I was in Germany in April and while it is illegal to display the Swastika it is not illegal to display Nazi signs on lamp posts. Scary.

so do abortionists and democrats: Safe, Legal and Rare.
“So whats the issue?”
You have to be joking, right? Perhaps you need a lesson in history. If you can’t see how these things morph into policies that threaten & violate us all, then I feel sorry for you.
“Its being done to an embryo in a dish”
Let me define embryo for you - it’s a human being at the earliest stages of life. You were one once upon a time. We all fall along the spectrum of development, whether we are 2 days post-conception or 90 years after birth. Still, we are people. Humans. Created in the image & likeness of God.
So are you for putting an end to all in-vitro fertilization practices? (Straw man, I know.)
After all, the process involves creating multiple embryos, the majority of which are never implanted. These “leftovers” are frozen for later use (and possibly never used), donated to fertility clinics, or destroyed.
The process is already creating multiple embryos. The testing simply ensures that the implanted embryo is the very best of the lot. Makes a certain sort of sense to me.
The way the process is done now, yes. If they could isolate a single egg, fertilize that and implant it, that would be acceptable. Creating a bunch of humans and then throwing most of them away is not acceptable.
Unless and until they can prove that life begins at a later stage than fertilization, the burden is on us to respect that life.

Absolutely. IVF necessitates the killing of tiny human beings. It is entirely morally wrong. If a couple cannot have children, they can adopt. It’s quite simple and requires no unborn children to be killed. In fact, it saves children from death; many mothers who currently abort might give their infants up for adoption if they were informed and the process was easier.
There you go. Y’all are addressing the wrong issue. Your issue is with in-vitro fertilization, not the testing it enables.
Good luck with that.
It’s part of the same issue, not separate at all.
The testing is just even more evil.
And this - if it’s okay to test a non-implanted embryo, then why not test an implanted one and abort if “imperfect”? And, why not test born babies for imperfections? Or two year olds? etc.
There is no reason not to, according to the logic used to be able to test non-implanted embryos.
And anyone who is “okay” with creating embryos and killing - “discarding” - the unwanted ones, is justifying killing tiny human beings. Embryonic human beings are human beings, not giraffes, not generic “tissue”, not amoebas.
