Matthews has been flogging Bachmann nonstop since the debate and if you think there’s not a larger purpose to that (and Mitchell and the others praising her), I submit you are missing the actual presidential sweepstakes game going on around you.
Bachmann had three honorable paths for her ambitions: hanging in for a House leadership post, attempting a move up to the Senate or attempting to follow in TPaw’s steps to the governorship. She made the Rovian bargain instead.
They both work really hard, have multiple jobs and have been very successful. I am very proud of both of them.
Congratulations on your success so far in cleaning up the GOP corruption in Delaware. I hope you can keep that momentum going!
BOHICA is an acronym for “Bend Over Here It Comes Again”. It’s the sort of rude expression of cynical disdain that swamp slithering rapscallions frequently employ, so it’s understandable that genteel ladies might be unfamiliar with it... /g
My cynicism derives from my assessment, based on my observation of their actions since the 2010 election, that McConnell, Boehner, and the rest of the GOP establishment have neither the ability nor the will to fight the kind of fight that must be made to even have a chance of saving the country.
Most of them are incompetent as fighters, they lack the will, and they are so terrified of the risks and losing the status quo that they’ll sabotage those few who are willing to stand and fight.
I do fervently hope that some how, some way, some prospective leader or leaders can break through these obstacles and prove my cynicism misplaced. They’d better hurry, however, as potentially catastrophic developments are beginning to cascade both domestically and worldwide which may render even the outcome of the next election moot.
Some good discussion today. I’m off to church - look forward to reading more afterward.
Raising taxes and the debt ceiling is also about buying votes with our money! Its the way the dems have historically taken us down and they don’t want it ever to stop!
“I’d like to see new guests on the shows.”
I’d like to see non-ruling class people as guests. And new pundits too. We all need to break loose of the mindset of the usual elites. They are so predictable it has become boring.
LOL good one,but was thinking more of a “Fatherly spanking”
...it SEEMED that Mathews had some empathy for the uprising that’s underway, initated by the tea party. Check it out.”
Please.
Picking our candidate so they can destroy them later.
Yes, they do want a crisis so they can blame the Republicans. That is a given.
Now, how do the Republicans turn that around? Not only can they, but more importantly, will they?
I’m not holding my breath, that’s for sure!
Bachmann had three honorable paths for her ambitions
Raising her national profile and name recognition with a Presidential bid will only help her in any of those if she chooses to try for them.
Republicans under Newt did it in just two. They took power '95, and FY 98 was balanced. Then and had four consecutive balanced budgets leaving a surplus when W came to power in a recession.
They did get "lucky" with the dot-com boom but failed during the Bush years by not balancing those budgets as well. Thanks to "leaders" like Tom DeLay of the "fat-free" budget lies.
Why in hell are we talking about 10 and 12 year plans which no future Congress or White House can be held to abide by? It's a scam.
What that panel thinks is irrelevant, but I was struck by what seemed genuine understanding that the political mood isn't good for the statists and I wonder how much that feeling is permeating DC. We know Obie's administration has been a disaster at every level. I suspect they know it too, but can only obliquely acknowledge it.
I also agree Perry might be our surest bet, and that's what I'm looking for, given the weight of the consequences. I'm hoping to look back and ask why didn't we see that anyone could beat Obie.
That's because they are, by nature, intent, and design, Slow and Spurious.
This single issue, if pursued aggressively, could topple the Obama administration, but the Repubs lack the instinct and courage to go for the jugular.
To repeat myself; What that panel thinks is irrelevant, but I was struck by what seemed genuine understanding that the political mood isn't good for the statists and I wonder how much that feeling is permeating DC. We know Obie's administration has been a disaster at every level. I suspect they know it too, but can only obliquely acknowledge it.
There are other data. The stimulus money is long gone. The Ryan FY-2012 budget resolution passed by the House returns non-security discretionary spending vack to 2008 levels. Ryan's budget calls for a $3.6 trillion budget outlays in FY-2011 and 3.5 trillion in FY-2012 (page 62).
As you can see, even the Ryan budget runs deficits out to 2021 and adds $4 trillion to the publicly held debt. During that timeframe the federal budget goes from 24.1% of of GDP to 19.9%.
The entitlement programs are driving the size of our budget and the deficits. 10,000 people a day are retiring and will continue to do so for the next 20 years. By 2030, one in five residents of this country will be 65 or older, twice what it is now. As a result SS and Medicare and Medicaid costs will increase significantly just due to the numbers and there is no doubt that medical costs will increase faster than inflation during that same time frame. These programs will consume the entire federal budget if they are not reformed. And to further complicate matters there will be just two workers for every retiree in 2030, down from the current 3.3 and 16 to one ratio in 1950. The Ponzi schemes are hitting tghe wall.
The growth of the economy will help reduce the current shortfall, but 60% of the budget is tied to the entitlement programs and other mandatory expenditures. And if interest costs go up as they must eventually, our debt servicing costs will skyrocket as well. Some estimate that within 10 years, the annual debt servicing costs will approach $1 trillion.
The opinion that I offered was that the GOP Establishment, seeing how weak Romney still may be, may be coming to the idea that Perry would be their best bet.
I see Perry as a likely loser against Obama, as I don’t think the nation is about to go for an exaggerated reiteration of W at this point, and the only real potential hitch in a Palin victory.
Obama advisers have admitted their strategy was to “McCain the campaign” in 2008—which was to get the media to plump up McCain for an easy kill for Obama. I have no doubt but they are more than happy to “Bachmann the primary run” now as a Palin stopper for 2012.
Holder will have to be dragged out with a wrecker,Geithner less than 6 months has been floated around the net.
Thanks for pinging as always. Got up late, late for church and won’t be able to participate until later, but looking forward to it.
What’s up with two Republicans on Fox News Sunday? I mean two Republicans who are not named McCain or that other guy.
Raising taxes will also piss off the Tea Party movement and result in a Third Party movement. Remember what happened to “Read my lips, no new taxes.” The Dems would love to have that same line in 2012.
