Derek Jeters bid for one of baseballs most hallowed milestones, a mark never reached by other New York Yankees greats, is complete.
Mobbed by his pinstriped pals after the ball sailed into the left-field seats, showered by ovations from his fans, Derek Jeter stood alone the first Yankees player to 3,000 hits.

For me too friend!
I’m not a Yankees fan (Go Sox!) but I’m a big Derek Jeter fan. I’m glad to see him grab this mark.
Good for him!
Jeter is a throwback to the good guys of yesteryear. Way to go, Cap!
It was a joy to watch him hit his 3000th. - and with a home run no less.
Thought the Rays showed a lot of class.....as Jeter passed first base, Kotchman tipped his cap to him and later all the Rays came out of the dugout to applaud.
Also the guy who caught the ball - Christian Lopez - did not hold it hostage, but gave it back. The Yankees have given him lots of goodies, including prime seats for the remainder of the season.
Great moments indeed.
Congratulations, Derek!
We could use more like him.
He’s a classy enough guy to step out of the all star lineup and let Peralta have his spot.
Recommend the DVD "Nine Innings From Ground Zero".
Wound up flat on his back, hit the ground pretty hard, bounced up, dusted himself off like it was nothing.
One for the ages!
I agree that ‘Yankees Suck’, but I think she means the ball team...
Jeter just got his fifth hit today, driving in the go-ahead run.
I’m a dislocated Texas and live in Arizona and still hi five the clouds over our 2001 World Series win
that said , Derek Jeter is a man’s man. The worst media, the most unforvining fans and yet, Derek is legend in NY
for all time.
What a great story to a great history
People forget that every hit he gets has been a new Yankee record for a while now.
IMHO, the hard work of off-the-field preparation is what I really admire. Players like him, if adults point this attribute out to children, offer good role models for any walk of life, not only sports.
I think this is why he is such a desireable product pitch-man for any company trying to portray their product as being of high quality or integrity.
Also, he plays hard but is a gentlemen. I wonder if there’s a stat for how many times a player argues a call. Derek would undoubtedly have some of the lowest numbers.
His apparent characteristic of getting more calm in important or dramatic game situations, IMHO, stems from confidence gained in preparation and humility that keeps him from ever arrogantly assuming that he will give some spectacular performance and instead keeps him simply working towards producing results.
What a great day for Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees! He’s a class act all the way.
That’s one of the things I like about baseball. The players are human and do make mistakes but compared to football or basketball, baseball players have a harder route to the big show and they tend to be more mature once they get there.
Curtis Granderson is my personal favorite Yankee. When he was in Detroit I know he did a lot of stuff for kids and kids charities. You’ll also notice that Granderson’s parents are still together. Jim Leyland once said he had to chain Granderson to a post to get him to take a night off.
And I don’t think Jeter uses steroids.
