Dear Pittsburgh 40 Days for Life family,
A good friend and true warrior for the unborn just gave me some bad news yesterday. I want to share it with all of my 40 Days for Life family so we can all be praying. There are dark clouds on the horizon here in Pittsburgh. This friend was looking on Google Earth, over Neville Island, and he noticed a large construction project, which has the name "Planned Parenthood". I checked it out for myself. It is true. It looks like Planned Parenthood is building a new facility (a very large one) on Neville Island. It is right on Grand Avenue, between Front River Rd. and Elsie Street...right on the edge of the river. It is near the 279/65 bridge. You need to click on the overhead view (on the right), pan to the far left side of the island and zoom in till you see the "Planned Parenthood", right next to the Subway Restaurant. We know that all across the world, Planned Parenthood is moving away from the small clinics of the past, and is building new, large "mega-abortion" facilities. They are usually built rather like fortresses, where there is no access for sidewalk counselors to offer information to women who are entering. They also include the appropriate medical facilities to enable them to do later term abortions, which is big money for them. It is very fitting that Planned Parenthood would choose a site like Neville Island, which is only accessible by a bridge.
I have had a sense of dread since speaking to my friend yesterday. However, this morning while reading my bible, I read in 1 Chronicles 5:20 that the Israelites "Cried to God in the battle, and He granted their entreaty because they trusted in Him". It says He helped them to defeat the enemy because "the war was of God". Now that is encouraging, because we know that the battle against abortion IS a war of GOD! This coming 40 Days for Life campaign (September 28 - November 6) is going to have immense signifigance for Pittsburgh. Now more than ever, we need to be praying, fasting and witnessing. Let's all pray that Planned Parenthood themselves will fall into the trap that they are laying for others in Pittsburgh's Neville Island. Let's pray that those walls will never be built...that not one child will be killed inside that empty space. Pray they will go bankrupt, however you feel the Lord leading you...PRAY! You know, it is no accident that our pro-life community is more united now than a year ago. Through our 40 Days for Life campaigns, we have begun to build a united network and can communicate through emails and gatherings. This is of the Lord's doing...for such a time as this. He has equipped us to fight this battle that is coming to our town. So, have faith in Him and do not be discouraged.
It is also no accident that Bernie Conklin has felt called to lead weekly "Jericho Marches" around the Planned Parenthood on Liberty Avenue for the past few Saturdays. She said she will continue to have these marches every Saturday at 8:00 am all during July and into August. She even has a shofar now! So, if you feel called to participate, come to Planned Parenthood any Saturday morning. Maybe we can begin some Jericho marches around the construction site on Neville Island. I will let you know if that happens.

I was on Neville Island at the hotel near the Subway last week and didn’t see any signs of construction there, but who knows?
THat’s interesting. Perhaps tomorrow I should drive by & check it out. THe google earth picture clearly shows a construction site labeled Planned Parenthood. I have no reason to think the 40 Days for Life people would spread unsubstantiated stories but perhaps they jumped the gun.
Truly, it does not surprise me. The PP here in Pgh has been trying desperately to stop sidewalk counseling by any & all means - local ordinances, courts, harrassment - you name it. This spring, I was praying with a priest & the “pro-choice” escorts surrounded him & got within inches of his face, staring him down while taking his picture with their cell phones. A group of us quickly surrounded him even more closely & blocked their access to him. Creeps. Another one of our priests was hit over the head by a pro-abort who then started chanting and gyrating her pelvis at him as he recited the rosary. Sickos. We have a big problem with evil in this city. It’s not the nice little small city/big town it once was. Instead, it’s being overrun with New Age wackos, homos, feminists, enviro-greenies, and progressives.

I think you may be referring to the 40 Days of Life campaign - hugely successful!!! All Christians, united in fasting & prayer twice a year saving babies, changing hearts, & shutting down clinics. I don’t know where you live but there may be a campaign in your area since it’s become an international movement.
Before I read any further...did anyone from FR verify this claim (I’m on dial-up) or are we to believe an email solely?
I was at a family reunion two weeks ago and part of our group was staying at the hotel. I didn’t notice the construction either.
Great evil is afoot on Neville Island.
Again, I have not confirmed this. The info was in an email sent by the Pittsburgh coordinator of the pro-life 40 Days for Life campaign. I did look at the Google Earth photos & they clearly show a construction site of a rather large structure that is labeled “Planned Parenthood”.
What I’m referring to may have been a part of it but I’m a bit skeptical.
The groups I heard about sounded very local and very spiritually intense.
The one in Houston is up and running. 610 Loop and I-45. Very close to University of Houston campus and Black population area.

That's what 40 Days for Life is - a coalition of small local groups. It started in Texas. That first group is the one who prayed Abby Johnson out of Planned Parenthood there.
Does Google Earth itself show the same thing as the photos you were sent?
Neville Island anagrams to Ladies’ Vell Inn. Vell is an old word that can mean to cut the turf from (land) as for burning, or a slaughterhouse term for the abomasum of milk-fed calf used for the preparation of rennet for junket tablets.
Maybe lame, but anyone who can come up with a better one is welcome.
