President Obama’s favorite La Raza group has teamed up with a federal agency to promote one of the administration’s many government cash giveaways with Spanish ads encouraging Latinos—possibly illegal immigrants—to apply for free U.S. taxpayer dollars.
The new campaign warns Hispanics that time is running out to get up to “$50,000 in help” from Uncle Sam to pay their mortgage, past due charges, taxes, insurance and even legal fees associated with their home. The money is being disbursed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as part of a billion-dollar Emergency Homeowner Loan Program (EHLP).
In 2008 the agency revealed that some 5 million fraudulent or defaulted home mortgages were in the hands of illegal immigrants, who obtained the loans from banks that were pressured by the government to offer them. In fact, the agency in charge of preserving and promoting public confidence in the nation’s financial system, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), began pushing banks to offer services to illegal aliens years earlier and many still do today.
It’s logical to assume that the involvement of the nation’s most powerful open borders group, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), in promoting government-funded mortgage aid is geared, at least in part, towards undocumented immigrants. The EHLP expired but recently got extended amid record-high unemployment to help people keep their homes. The NCLR, which has seen its federal funding skyrocket since one of its top officials got a job in Obama’s White House, wants to make sure Latinos get a piece of the pie. This week it launched a Spanish-language public service campaign to highlight the program’s “fast-approaching” deadline.
“The biggest challenge now is ensuring that people know about this opportunity and take advantage of it during the short period that it is available,” according to the NCLR director who announced the campaign that will help Latinos “seize” an “opportunity.” In the ad HUD Assistant Secretary Mercedes Marquez alerts Hispanics of the imminent deadline to get their government cash and directs them to a Spanish HUD website that assures the money will be disbursed in a “fair and impartial manner.”
Last year Marquez , a strong ally of the open borders movement, awarded an NCLR affiliate known as Chicanos Por la Causa nearly $40 million in grants to “stabilize neighborhoods and rebuild economies.” The money came from a Neighborhood Stabilization Program that has doled out $2 billion to community groups to combat the negative effects of “vacant and abandoned homes.”
Just a few weeks ago a Judicial Watch investigation revealed that federal funding for the NCLR, which for years has raked in millions of taxpayer dollars, has catapulted since Obama hired its senior vice president (Cecilia Muñoz) to be his director of intergovernmental affairs. In fact, the government cash more than doubled the year Muñoz joined the White House, from $4.1 million to $11 million. Additionally, NCLR affiliates nationwide raked in tens of millions of government grant and recovery dollars last year thanks to the Muñoz factor.

I am SO VERY SICK OF THIS. EVERYTHING is translated into Spanish. EVERYTHING. It is so pathetic because it assumes all Latinos are as stupid as a rock. No woman in Target could EVER figure out that the section marked COSMETICS is the same as COSMETICAS? It has to be labeled in both languages?? It is getting thoroughly ridiculous.
I have lived in two other lands with different languages and learned by living, and became fluent in both languages, as an adult. ARE LATINOS TOO STUPID TO EVEN TRY???? This pandering is condescending, and the Hispanics seem to be lazy enough to accept the inherent insult. They sure are not complaining that an ad for corn shows a freaking PHOTO of the corn but says MAIS because no one could EVER figure out what it was without that Spanish word. Bite me.
Could it be that Mexicans of today can’t learn english? Part of my family came from Mexico many years ago. At that time, they all learned english. Maybe today they aren’t smart enough?

Grandpa got here in the 1930s. He spoke French, Yiddish, and bad Hebrew. In three months, he spoke English.
I moved here to be with my wife 3 years ago, faltering English from school and late nights watching Baywatch.
Read a dictionary and learned 20 words every day. Still do.
I think I do OK. Certainly better than Mexicans who have been here for years.

What really ticks me off is the printing of ballots in Spanish in some areas. To attain US citizenship a person has to speak and read English and only citizens can legally vote. Printing ballots in a foreign language is inviting voter fraud.
How do you say, “eat lead” in Spanish?

ENGLISH must be made the official language of the US. Not only would “residents” need to learn the language to recieve aid(and you can bet your bottom dollar that they would), but the millions of dollars spent on mandated translation services at health facilities and government agencies could be saved.

What an interesting number.
Even assuming an average family size of 4 people - not typically true for multi-family Mexican illegal alien households - that means 20 million people.
And these are just the people brazen enough to buy homes....used to be you had to prove citizenship, or disclose nationality, on the very good theory that the property of the U.S. belongs to the citizens or those they choose to share the land with.
So all the people here razzing us for pointing out that illegals in the U.S. are far higher then the ridiculous 11 million number...note that the government just admitted it.
Either that, or there's a bunch of DINKII's (Double Income No Kids Illegal Immigrants) living large in the American Southwest.

I believe I had heard that some of the foreclosures were investment properties (who would have believed that 20 years ago?) but by and large these are single family dwellings and the admission does put the lie to the 12 million number.
I don’t know if you remember the discussion 5 or 6 years ago, but even then FReepers on this topic were warning of a mortgage bust. Over the objections of the FBI, the Congress passed legislation allowing ‘people’ to use a Tax ID Number (TIN) in lieu of an SSAN to obtain a loan. At that point, some of our more prescient members saw the handwriting on the wall.
