Suspect in Long Island pharmacy deaths called for jury duty

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- A New Yorker facing first-degree murder charges in the shooting of four people at a Long Island pharmacy has been excused from jury duty.

Jury duty service notices are generated by an automated system. Anyone who hasn’t served in the past four years, and has a driver’s license or is registered to vote can be called.

Why he seems like the perfect New York juror, isn’t there some poor schlep who defended himself, that needs to be convicted?

"The killer is wearing a hat and beard to conceal his face in the videotape, two of the three eyewitnesses never got a good look at the killer's face and even though the weapon used by the killer was found in David Laffer's home, who is to say that the killer didn't plant it there along with the stolen goods?"

"The third eyewitness, Laffer's wife, is a known junkie and a liar - she might just be trying to get back at her husband."

"Laffer is a military veteran with a spotless record."

"There is no DNA, and the one fingerprint they have is meaningless: it was Laffer's local drugstore, he could have touched that piece of paper days before, or the killer could have planted it there."

Our local system here where I live leaves something to be desired. My 2 sons have both been called twice in the last 6 years. They are 15 and 14 years old. My oldest got a jury duty letter when he was 9.
